Code of Nobles

The Code of Nobles is a way of speech replete with hidden terminology, code words, and secret symbols. The Code of Nobles was developed for the royal household of Oniron and the highest clergy. Only members of the royal household, some of their retainers, the highest nobility (dukes and archdukes), top Ithean church leaders, and high magi.   The Code is literally its own language, however it does use the Common speech of nobles to communicate, which is different from the speech of the common people. The Code of Nobles can be used both in spoken and written form, and both mediums have slightly different uses and. For example, the term "grey rouncy" when used in written prose in a particular way can mean something different than when it is used when speaking.   The Code of Nobles will literally seem like the nobles using it are speaking about something completely unrelated to what they are actually hinting at or speaking about. The other aspect of the Code of Nobles that makes it very difficult to understand is that it borrows from old speech, using words and concepts that have been forgotten or are rarely used.   The Code of Nobles is regularly used to pass along secret and encoded messages (yet another level of secrecy that can be built into the Code) and to confirm the identity of a person. Without knowing how to speak or write in the Code, it would be next to impossible to impersonate a high noble. If one does not use the Code often, it will be extremely difficult to use fluently. Thus, while people might know certain words or phrases of Noble Code, or Nobel Speak, they will have to understand the entire hidden meaning of the message to truly make out the communication.   It is a capital offense to teach the Code to anyone except the highest nobility, and teaching the Code is solely the responsibility of select teachers in the royal household and clergy.   Alternate Names: Noble Code, Noble Speak, Kingspeak
