Anansi
The merry trickster, the jester and the storyteller, Anansi is all those things and more yet. The spider god sees himself not just as someone who has a good time, but as a necessary counter-balance to the other gods. Through his tricks, pranks and playful teasing, he keeps the gods humble. If you ask Anansi, without him, the gods would all devolve into petty and arrogant tyrants, unaware of their limits and flaws. Yet, below his cheerful facade, he is also a god of multitudes of worries; About the world, about the gods, and about the future. When asked why he laughs, he answers that if he did not, he would go mad.
As the god of stories, he loves traveling the planes to listen to what captivates and moves people. He values good humor, humility, and imagination. He is a patron of all pranksters and comedians, small and large and always favors the underdog. Thieves, rebels and local communities under pressure from outside forces all send him prayers. He is also a favored icon of slaves resisting their oppressors.
Anansi is portrayed in a myriad of ways, able to use his Magical Changing Hat to appear in any manner he likes, but usually appears as a suppressed minority or as a friendly spider.
