The War of the Wood
The fae, the orcs, and the kjeri each consider themselves the custodians of nature and the protectors of the land. Which the orcs and the knjeri are happy to share the role, the fae think that only they can command such a title as their homes are built from the wood and their lives revolve around its protection and reverence.
The orcs live to the north, separated from the fae and kjeri by the gnomelands, but kjeri and fae are neighbours, and the refusal of the fae to share the custodianship of the land led to the war between the fae and kjeri people, known to many as the War of the Wood.
In the scheme of things, The War of the Wood was a short conflict, lasting three years, but its effects are still being felt across the southern lands. The fae won the war, and enslaved the kjeri people in the hope to suppress further dissent. The kjeri were forced to renounce their claims of land custodianship, and all of their culture was stripped bare so that they would start anew, never being fae but never again being the kjeri.
The kjeri kept what they could of their tradtions, customs, and stories, owed in part to those of their kind that fled into the other lands. Eventually, the kjeri won their freedom through an uprising, turning what they had been taught against the fae.
The swamps and marshlands the kjeri now call their lands were returned to the by the fae, though the fae kept most of the land that was beneficial to them. The fae still arrogantly assume themselves the sole custodians of the land, but all races share this honour even though some do not know or claim it. The fae still stand in their wood, still stubborn, but the other races know what the fae are capable of and what they have done, and the scars of their actions run through the lands.
