The Iron Ecclesiarchy

Strength, piety, honor, self-sacrifice; all are descriptions that spring to mind in many when considering the people of the Iron Ecclesiarchy. A militant nation formed in the wake of The Accord and under the guidance of The Iron Goddess from whom they take their name, the Ecclesiarchy is the largest nation on the continent of Ordyn.   Well known for their military actions in the surrounding nations, The Ecclesiarchy has something of a divisive reputation among their allies. While many view the nation as a benevolent protector and ally merely seeking to protect people, some groups believe that the nation cares little for the laws and customs of lands other than their own and merely views the rest of the world as children to be taught and guarded. For most Ecclesiarchs the truth is somewhere in between. They honestly believe that they are doing what is best for the world at large and honestly wish to protect and respect the freedoms of their fellow mortals; but they believe that their religious and moral calling to stand against the agenda of the Spirits is more important than any petty hurt feelings or laws that they might break to accomplish their goals.

Culture

Split generally between the stoic Southern Ecclesiarchs, known for their stoic and serious nature, and Northern Ecclesiarchs, known for being brash and boisterous. Both cultures are highly religious and nationalistic, placing a large amount of value on both their church and state. Despite the importance of their religion, most Ecclesiarchs are not overly concerned with who or what other people worship; unless that person happens to worship a Spirit.   Otherwise the community structure tends to be highly individualistic, personal capability is considered important to the health of society as a whole with skill in combat and skill in metalworking being prized over all other skills. Children are encouraged to begin training with weapons as early as the age of four in some places and many peasants will save their money to attempt to send their children to be apprenticed to a smith later in life.   The people of the Ecclesiarchy tend to favor practical and simple clothing that is easily repaired. Simple cloth tunics and pants accompanied by a leather vest and boots is the most common sight even in large cities, and people who wear showy clothing are typically looked down upon. For formal occasions, or when an individual wants to dress out, most equip their arms and armor, as looking battle ready is always a popular look in the martially focused nation. At any occasion that is considered formal or important people are expected to attend in full battle regalia; much to the shock and dismay of many foreigners who have found themselves on themselves receiving an unexpected marriage proposal from a flustered Ecclesiarch.
