Clouded

Clouded is a condition conveyed by the Umusanjayo plant specifically the roots of this desert dwelling weed. The Umusanjayo plant is found traveling in the Dalarian wastes carried in the wake of the camel plants that follow the roving water sources. The roots of the plant, when submerged in water absorb as much as it can hold expelling chemicals into the water. If the water is allowed to evaporate the powdery substance that is left behind can be placed into a pipe and smoked.

Symptoms

Initially a sense of euphoria overtakes the one who partakes of Smoke. A warming sensation has been attributed to the drug and a small amount of tremors isn't unheard of. The main draw for those who find themselves addicted to Smoke are the hallucinations. After twenty minutes all who Smoke themselves out lose their minds and fall into a hallucination. Many trips on Smoke end up with the same hallucination, that of the feeling that they can catch the clouds of smoke they themselves create. It is not uncommon to see someone lost in the throws of Smoke breathing out then attempting to collect all the smoke they can. After three to six hours, most people start to come down with most saying that it's like the real world slowly bleeds through the hallucinations. Many consider this to be the worst part of the experience as the blending of real and imaginary worlds causes a fair number of participants to start to question what parts of their lives are truly real and which parts are just bleeding over hallucinations.

Treatment

An individual who imbibes of Smoke once or twice will find that they have no ill effect. There is even a small subset of people who regularly enjoy themselves by getting lost in the craziness that their minds can conjure up. For most though, when Smoke becomes an issue they must stop cold at once. Cold turkey is the way to go. There is no half hallucinations with Smoke, either you're in or you're out. It can be hard for hardcore Smoke addicts to quit, the first couple days can have them truly wondering if this is the world they are experiencing is the real world or if it is just another Smoke haze they don't remember falling into. Once the initial withdrawal symptoms have faded, people have reported a sense that the world is not as it should be coming over them occasionally. These episodes have been linked to coming across something that they generally hallucinated about and or something that led them to Smoke in the first place.

Cultural Reception

In many places Smoke is considered an illicit drug and while the use of it might not be wholly illegal, those who do partake regularly are seen as lesser willed. There are places where such uses of the drug is seen as commonplace although these are generally the seedier locations on Adranon. Port Drake is known to have a couple Smoke Dens and Umasanzi, the city at the center of the desert of Dalaria, the birth place of the drug, has a culture of people who partake of the drug. There is even a tribe in the Dalarian Wastes that claim that those who chase the clouds lead them to water in times of strife. Whether that is true or not has never been documented.
