Onyxia

Lord of the Dead

One of the first creatures to enter Adatia, Onyxia quickly made himself a home in the swamps of southern Aluin. For over a century he remained, but as he became restless he would corrupt Paramunth and some dragonborn tribes before leading an undead army to the gates of the dwarven holds.

Personal history

In the early days of Adatia, even before the sentient races were summoned by the gods, Onyxia came. She scoured the world, relishing the solitude he could delve into. In the south-east of the Esmean desert she found her new home, a large cave at the edge of what would later be named the Hinfolk river. Through his influence a large swamp began snaking along the river, expanding ever further. This swamp would remain even long after Onyxia was vanquished. For almost two centuries he remained in his realm, biding his time, but eventually it was clear that he wished to leave Adatia.   Many scholars have tried to discover why Onyxia actually came to Adatia, or why he suddenly wished to leave. Most assume that he was banished by some stronger being and fled to Adatia. Those that believe this assume that the undead scourge that he built up has something to do with why he suddenly tried to leave Adatia.   In the following years he began influencing the dragonborn tribes of the surrounding areas by taking the forms of different dragons. Some he used for gathering knowledge, while others were used for gathering materials for his future armies. Finally a few of the tribes were transformed to warrior clans that he used as foot soldiers in the first battles.   Finally, while corrupting one of the final dragonborn tribes, he met Paramunth. He saw the potential in her and began seducing her. He believed that he could convince her to give him access to the secret tomes of Nekharat, but despite his best efforts Paramunth refused. Enraged Onyxia began his plan. He gathered the dragonborn warrior tribes loyal to him and laid siege to Nekharat.   The stalwart defenders of Nekharat quickly annihilated the attackers, using excessive force to dissuade any future attackers, but as they began removing the dead from the battlefield the second wave cam, lead by Onyxia herself. As the defenders charged to meet the new attackers the recently slain rose. Surrounded the defenders quickly fell and the hoard swiftly swept through the city.   Onyxia, despite his unfathomable power was unable to penetrate the defenses of the grand library, and with it, his only hope of a quick emigration from Adatia. Instead he realized his only option was to destroy the Nexus. The might of Branos was far too strong though. Instead he decided to attack the largest population he could that was not unified or diplomatically connected with the rest of the world. He lead his army to the gates of the dwarven mountains and began laying siege.   To his surprise the dwarven resistance was even more formidable than he expected. Their pure stubbornness combined with their reliance on pure martial prowess was the perfect combination to let them hold out so long. What he did not expect was that the dwarves would unite so quickly, or that the other races of Adatia would come to assist the, at the time, most hated of the races.   This lead to the dwarves resisting long enough for the first king of the dwarves to craft Evignet, and to slay Onyxia.
