Dwarven Clansmen

Most dwarves belong to one of the great clans. These clans are ancient families that extend further than the biological families. Each was founded by an renowned dwarf in the first centuries of Adatias history. The most noble clan is the clan of Kings, clan Tordenvejr

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

Each clansman can speak high dwarvish, but every clan has a specific dialect that is only spoken between clansmen.

Culture and cultural heritage

Each Clan was founded by one of the noble ancient dwarves, and they perscribe to the leacy of that dwarf. The dwarves of a clan still have different proffessions, but their founders profession is generally seen as more noble than others, and is executed with a greater degree of skill than from others.

Inter clan Relationships

Relationships between clan are permissible, and in some cases even encouraged, but the resulting family must prescribe to one of the clans. The family usually then takes a new name. The ease of such a relationship is highly dependant on the clan itself. Generally if a clan has a higher status, it is more difficult to mary into that clan, especially since these generally smaller clans tend to be wary of such relationships.

Shared customary codes and values

When dwarves meet it is customary for the dwarves to introduce themselves, but it is also uncouth to begin. One of the dwarves, usually a Tordenvejr, will begin meditating the introductions. If no one introduces themselves he will request that someone he believes to be sufficiently reputable to introduce themselves until all dwarves have been introduced. In general a dwarf will not be offended if anotehr dwarf introduces themselves too early or too late unless they believe that it was done as an insult, as they understand that it is impossible to choose the correct time for an introduction.

Common Etiquette rules

The clans are extremely proud, and in that pride they understand the pride of other clans. A clansman is cautious when speaking to other dwarves and will refrain from speaking of any founder. Traditionally they will attempt to speak with pride of the collaboration of their own clan and the clan of their counterpart.

Common Dress code

All clans have a brooch to identify its members. Additionally a clan may have additional pieces, from rings to capes, to signify important positions.
