The Grave Waters

The Captain stood frozen on the bridge as in the distance, out of the water, an island surfaced. The ocean blistered and steam rose from the surface.

The Grave Waters lie in the ocean between the continents of Fermata and Leggeros, marked on both sides by large coral reefs. The horizon over the Grave Waters is perpetually shrouded in fog. And no shipping routes dare pass through this realm. Though many have tried in the past to cross the Grave Waters, no ship has ever crossed the grey expanse.

A handful of boastful sailors swear to have sailed beyond the reefs. Those who have, claim to have seen the ocean bubble and steam as if it were boiling. However, none have ventured more than a league beyond the very edge of the reefs. Some have speculated that there exists an ancient horror within the depths, a creature of gargantuan size capable of taking down even the largest warship from the Usnavi fleet. Some who are more optimistic choose to believe that it is an illusion, created to conceal the home of either a band of pirates or an Archmage wanting to hide away from the world. If so, the area is either so dangerous or so wonderous that none have ever left; willingly or otherwise.
