The Moon

The Beauty of the Night Sky

The Moon is one of the celestial bodies that revolves around Acciphere. It is also the most prominent of them all, and appears every night. It is said that the Moon is actually the eye of the First Goddess, the female counterpart of the First God, though nobody knows if this is true or not. As the myth goes, the God and Goddess take turns opening their eyes, so as to not completely exhaust one or the other. But approximately over a period of five months, the Goddess slowly closes her Divine Eye over a period of five months, falling into sleep. After a few days, she slowly opens her eyes again, with the Full Moon occuring during the New Year. The Moon is part of a lot of cultures on Acciphere, and it is even known for some of the Four Great Clans of Acciphere to have their powers enhanced or diminished during the phases of the moon.

Purpose / Function

The Moon has serves a major role in the history of Acciphere. Observing how the Moon formed tides on Acciphere, the The Water Clan learned how to bend water to their will. Since the The Fire Clan is very closely related to the Sun, their powers weaken during the night, especially during the Full Moon. The The Earth Clan and The Lightning Clan are not effected in any way by the Moon.

Another point to cover is the fact that the Fire Clan cannot control the element of fire during the Solar Eclipse, when the Moon interferes in between. The same goes for the Water Clan during the Lunar Eclipse, when the Sun overpowers the Moon.

History

The Moon was said to have originated at roughly the same time as the The Great Sealing. As the myth goes, one day God was worried that his Divine Eye would burn Acciphere to death, so a Goddess emerged from him. She became his female counterpart, and was the exact opposite of him. While God would lose his temper quickly, the Goddess stayed calm no matter what. While God's Divine Eye gave the world warm and energetic days, the Goddess' Divine Eye gave the world cool and pleasant nights.

Soon, people started inhabiting the Moon too. They built settlements, and farmed. The atmosphere was even more perfect than the Earth, and the rate of fertility of crops was greater. Out of the great Clans that emerged on the Moon, the Moon Clan was the greatest. They formed an Alliance between the Clans of the Moon, and soon the Alliance of the Moon was formed. But after that, a civil war ensued.

As time went on, there was no fighting. The people grew timid and lazy. The younger generation resented this, and frequently fought. They thought that this peace would eventually spell the end of their civilization, since all they did was nothing but sit around and relax. So the younger generation killed the older ones in a civil war that ensued on the surface of the moon. The younger generation won, and they started fighting with all the other small Clans too. All the fighting caused the land to turn barren and lose its fertility. After they were done fighting, they tried to withstand the now barren Moon, but faile Everything fell into disuse, and in a few years, they didn't know what to do. The once-fertile soil of the moon turned into Moon Sand, and formed a desert. Unable to do anything to reverse it, they perished one by one.

Before all of them could perish, they descended to Acciphere, and mixed themselves in with the inhabitants. Even though this happened, people can still tell them apart. The people of the Moon are known to have silvery-white hair and pale white faces, but in the course of time, those features gradually disappeared.

Due to the absence of life on the Moon, it slowly became barren until it turned into a desert. People wanted to go back and live there, but the whole of the planet being a desert didn't help. What added to their troubles is the fact that due to the poisonous gases they released into the air while they lived there, the atmosphere slowly got eaten up, and was covered by Moon Dust. This Moon Dust was found to be made after years and years of erosion of various materials like rock, metal and ice by solar radiation. They broke into very fine particles, and due to solar winds, spread across the entirety of the Moon.
