Awakened

No one quite knows where they came from originally. Were they sent by the gods? Did Psomne dream up a magnificent hero or a horrible villain? Who is to say but the actions of the Awakened? Let them speak for themselves...

Awakened is the name given to the living who travel through the Errant Edge and miraculously survive, returning with magic inside their bodies as an innate feature. Very few manage to find the Errant Edge on their own, let alone survive what it does to them. Those who do, however, come back with abilities few could ever dream of having, especially innately.

Cause

Thaumite is directly embedded into the body of the victim through various tendrils of material of the surrounding environment. This can happen to any living creature, sentient or not. The Errant Edge has stayed in Chenos for a while, though the location moves on occasion. The thaumite reacts within and changes how the body works, thus giving the Awakened their abilities.
There is no known cure to being Awakened.

Known Symptoms

Symptoms are wild and erratic, and are vastly different for every person. Symptoms could be incredibly particular, like being able to summon rain only on odd days, or incredibly generic, like being able to make oneself invisible. All symptoms are magical in nature, and other more physical ailments are likely caused by the injuries sustained in the process of becoming Awakened.

Cultural Reception

Many people are wary once they find out someone is Awakened, unsure if they'll use their powers for good or for evil. It's fairly difficult for most people to notice that someone is Awakened or not since most powers don't show themselves visibly unless the Awakened is loose with their abilities. In this way, most Awakened can blend into society as if they were normal people.
