Nahtyoru, Banking Oligarchy of

The large city of Nahtyoru used to be ruled by a beholder by the name of Terbedar. Terbedar was a long term rival of Ermahl, ruler of Glazem. Terbedar’s jealousy of the growth and achievement of that city guided all his action. In the decades after the great war, he blindly spent and borrowed heavily to try to keep up using misguided projects and doomed revenue generating schemes. Terbedar was no fool and he may have stood a chance, was it not for the covert actions of a local group of vampires seeking to take over control of the city, saboteurs of unidentified affiliation as well as Ermahl himself. In 3034, Terbedar knew he was beaten. He had managed to identified his enemies but could not muster the ressources to defeat them. His paranoia led him to believe his personal destruction was a matter of months. Furthermore, the Banking Federation was threatening to take action on behalf of the five Banking Houses that now technically owned the city from the sheer amount of debt.

Terbedar’s final move was to antagonize the Banking Federation publicly and dared them to take action. The Banking Federation decided to back a coup from the five Banking Houses and make an example of Terbedar and his city. However, Terbedar fled the city and spent his few remaining assets leaking all his accumulated intelligence on the saboteur cabal, the vampire coterie and Ermahl’s machinations. By the end of the year, Terbedar had establish a new lair under the isolated remnants of an Elven citadelle from where he still plots his return to power. Meanwhile, the Banking Houses had crushed all conspirators in the city and established themselves as the rulers of the region. Over the next couple of years, they restructured the city and the entire region under their newly formed Banking Oligarchy of Nathyoru.
