Fiordevin
An Absalon melting pot, the focus of this principality is to spread eastward. For trade, adventure or settlement through its diverse races, beliefs and ideologies.
Fiordevin was originally founded by immigrants from the Center due to its scorn for narrowminded theocracy of The Center. They were the original New Settlements, and chose to look to the sea, whereas their sister country, Teachtrea decided to go the more agricultural route.
Due to their similar mindset, these two neophyte countries teamed up and have built a joint governing body to protect both countries for the forseeable future.
Structure
The organizational structure of the New Settlements is that of representation. Each settlement, thorpe, hamlet, thorpe all have representatitves. They all have an equal say in electing a Magistrate. That Magistrate runs the nation from the Skerrainge Ford. The Magistrate works directly with the Magistrate of Teachtrea as well.
Each representative however does deal as the authority figure of their hometown. They do not stay at The Ford, except upon request, politicial meetings, or national holidays where their attendance is required. There are currently 110 representatives.
Culture
This is the melting pot of all cultures in Absalon. Almost every race, tradition, pantheon, ideological belief has been brought here. Specific to Skerrainge Ford, they take more pride in that than most towns in the New Settlements.
It is important to note that they will react hostily to any culture trying to smother or otherwise become dominant in their region. This has been particularly true for the Church of Pelor. As such, most disciples trying to spread their church's ways has been meant with varying degrees of hostility. The Church of Pelor, after many years of attempts have officially denoted The New Settlements as 'a haven of heathens."
Public Agenda
The New Settlements is about new opportunities. This can include above and below board dealings, however, due to the policing efforts of the Magistrate and the people of The Ford, above board opportunities are more prevalant.
It is also no secret that the New Settlements have no intention on growing as a nation or expanding it's borders. It has done so only due to the growing influx of individuals seeking new opportunities.
