Thranse

Structure

The government of Thranse is organized into tiers, with each tier having more power than the tiers below them. At the very top is the King. Answering directly to the king are his three gerents. The gerents see to the micromanagement of the country's laws and economics. To aid them, each gerent has three governors that are in charge of ruling a specific part of the country. These governors are free to pass down local laws as long as they're still compliant to laws passed down by the gerents and the king. Furthermore, gerents can at any time anull a law passed by a governor so long as that governor is under their supervision.

History

The kingdom of Thranse was established by a mighty paladin of the goddess of order. The paladin was named Ghelter Thrana, and he established the kingdom after liberating the territory from hordes of barbarians. Thrana gained the goddess's favor and was given the means to establish a kingdom in the newly freed lands. However, Thrana would never get to see his kingdom's rise; as he was killed by a dragon during the early days of the kingdom.   After the capital city of Vaeryst was established, Thrana's son Eldmun became the first king of Thrana. Eldmun ruled for twenty years and sired three children before he died of illness. Eldmun the Second took the throne and found that governing an entire nation on his own was far too difficult. Eldmun the Second decided to create the positions of gerent and governor to help share the workload. While it did make governing more convenient, Eldmun the Second's new system enraged his younger brother Osma. Viewing the system as a weakening of the king's rule, Osma murdered Eldmun the Second in his sleep.   With two out of three of Eldmun the First's children dead, the only heir to the throne was the youngest brother, Ludos. However, Ludos was at the tender age of 14 when he took the throne. Seeing an opportunity, the gerents began to subtly manipulate the young king, preying on his inexperience and naive outlook on life to give themselves more power than they were ever supposed to have.
