The Green Abyss

Geography

Located on (and taking up most of) the continent of Xanqur, the Green Abyss certainly lives up to its name. The humidity of the jungle makes the already oppressive tropical heat even more unbearable, comparable to the sweltering heat of the Nine Hells. The dense canopy of trees also severely limits the amount of sunlight that reaches the lower levels, to the point where night and day are almost indistinguishable.
If the flora and fauna don't kill you, someone else will- at the heart of the jungle, hidden under ancient ruins from a long-dead empire lurk the snake-like yuan-ti. They worship their malevolent gods in the shadows and carry out blasphemous rites in the hopes of restoring their power- no matter how steep the cost of that power may be.

Fauna & Flora

It is not the heat or the dark that gives the Green Abyss its name. Instead, it is the incredible danger posed to any would-be explorers by the jungle's natural inhabitants that give the place its moniker. On top of hyper-aggressive predators like dire jaguars and man-eating spiders, there is hazardous fauna like bloodsucking vines, mushrooms that explode into billowing clouds of toxic spores, and the deadly doomdreamer flower with its lethally narcotic fragrance.

Natural Resources

As the area hasn't been colonized yet, many speculate that the Green Abyss could be home to limitless untapped riches. Hundreds of potential fortune seekers have ventured into the jungles, never to return. As long as their is greed and men who are too ambitious for their own good, this is a cycle that will continue to repeat itself.
