Bogstead
For those acquainted with muck
As you trudge through the brown mire and endure the deafening hum of insects, you faintly smell smoke over the potent-smelling muck. Suddenly, you realize that you have entered a small village of shanty hovels and rickety boardwalks. Although dark, you sense an aura of security and isolation deep within the surrounding nature. Welcome to the bayou of Bogstead.
Demographics
As a settlement far removed from larger civilized areas, Bogstead shelters long-lasting families of smaller races such as halflings and gnomes who are accustomed to the harsh swamp environment.
- 40% Halfling
- 30% Gnome
- 15% Human
- 15% Blended The people of Bogstead are of humble standing as a self-sufficient low socioeconomic class with few venturing to pursue wealth.
Government
Seko Thornspine is the only elder recognized when the village requires wisdom or large decisions, but most inhabitants are independent and self-ruling.
Defences
Bogstead has no formal defenses, but its size and shambled appearance help it blend into the natural environment. Should any threat come, the populace relies on Seko and his apprentices for aid.
Industry & Trade
The civilians of Bogstead involve themselves in multiple labors that take advantage of what the swamp offers. Gathering peat, tar, shellfish, reptile skins, and rare ingredients for herbalists and mixologists are the most common jobs available in the untamed bayou.
Infrastructure
The most notable structure is an old watermill used to crush berries and nuts for everyone in the village. It is said that the watermill is the oldest structure apart from Seko's alchemist's tree-hovel.
Assets
Seko, the local herbalist, possesses the primary valuables in the form of potions and rare ingredients. Other inhabitants sell different strange goods such as forage, peat, alligator and turtle skin, and edible crustaceans.

- Druidic Combine
History
Not much is known of the origins of Bogstead, but the residents claim that people have settled in the area since before Vior the Vile's takeover of Daigare.
Architecture
Shacks in Bogstead are loosely constructed with cypress wood and hemp rope, and some are built into the side of large cypress trees with complex root systems. Others sit on makeshift rafts over the murky water.
Geography
Bogstead lies in the Sharproot Sump, a bayou with swampy terrain and massive bald cypress trees. The land remains relatively flat being so close to the sea, but few rocky outcrops may be spotted underneath wild vegetation. The dark green water makes it difficult to spot areas of deep water or unsteady sandbars.
