Langmann
The Langmann is a mythical figure in Ecleinian folklore. He is, according to legend, a man 4 meters tall with extremely long limbs who devours misbehaving children.
Summary
The Langmann will stalk naughty or cruel children (in some tellings greedy or rude children) and break into their rooms at night, stealing them with his ghastly long arms before taking them back to his forest lair, snapping their necks, skinning them, and eating them. The Langmann's appearance varies from tale to tale- some claim he is an ordinary man, except he's four meters tall and has extremely long limbs, to variations that the Langmann is actually a humanoid black mass with long limbs and huge teeth. It is possible to keep the Langmann at bay by either a) not being a brat or b) giving him mead. Supposedly, one can also summon Langmann through various methods.
Historical Basis
The legend originates from the forests in the southern Greenlands, and might be based off the early mechs built by tinkerers in the area.
Spread
The tale of Langmann is relatively common, and he has widespread popularity in the cities of Therinsburg and Candfourth. He also has minor followings in Caworn and Raqquak.
Variations & Mutation
There is some disagreement about what traits the Langmann targets. The most common variation has him targeting children who misbehave or who are cruel, but some say he also goes after greedy and rude children.
Cultural Reception
Langmann is particularly popular with Caus and Penai parents. It is a relatively common motivator from parents to children or from children to children to say that 'Langmann will get you!', or some variation of the term.
In Literature
Langmann has quite a few stories and poems written about him.
In Art
There are numerous paintings of Langmann, several orchestral works, multiple statues, two tapestries, and a variety of amateur audio recordings supposedly in which the listener can hear Langmann.
