The Runic Script

The Runic Script is a writing language that allows someone to encode a spell into an item. Enchanters tend to do most of the enchantment of an item as they know the script and have the skills to do it. Rune symbols go back many thousands of years before the time of the Unknown Ancients. It was used to cast spells, set traps and enchant items. After a great many years it became a written dialect in which the vikings and other civilizations used the runic scripture as a way of writing. This possibly caused chaos as sorcerers could enchant items and messages without anyone suspecting a thing. It wasn't too long before the script was abandoned and it became a symbol for enchantment once again.   Now they are mostly used for enchantment. A lot of traps are made of mechanical parts and spells aren't powerful enough to require them. In fact there are few who know spells that are powerful enough to require runic symbols and even fewer who have the ability to do such a spell.   A lot of the history of how the Runic Script came about is lost to time as little is known about the time during the Unknown Ancients let alone before their time. However perhaps the truth will come to light.

Writing System

Each symbol equates to a number in the 26th base e.g. the first rune would be equivalent to our 1 the next is 2 then 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, i, j, k, l, m, n, o, p and the last symbol being q or 26.

Geographical Distribution

It is known all across the world with millions of sorcerers writing its symbols.
