Shades

The darkness walking, night dancing, shadow children of Shar

Shades are living shadows.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Shades are living shadows. When in the dark, Shades have no exact form, however when in light direct Shades take the form of a humanoid made up of physical darkness. This form has long arms and legs with a faceless head ending in two horn like shapes extending upward. The head of a Shade has a faint light emitting circle on its "forehead." This humanoid form is what mortals know Shades to look like and is why mortals call Shades "Night Dancers," "Night Stalkers," and "Banshees." Due to the punishments put upon Shades during The gods War, Shades can be damaged by magical light.

Ecology and Habitats

Shades inhabit the shadows and darkness of the world. Although Shades do not inhabit every shadow, they can inhabit any shadow.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

Shades are living shadows. When in the dark, Shades have no exact form, however when in light direct Shades take the form of a humanoid made up of physical darkness. This form has long arms and legs with a faceless head ending in two horn like shapes extending upward. The head of a Shade has a faint light emitting circle on its "forehead" between its two "horns."

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The perception and sensory capabilities of Shades are unknown as they do not posses any physical features that would allow for normal sight, taste, hearing, scent, or speech. Shades do hear, smell, see, taste, and "speak" but do so with no specific body part. Becasue Shades are amorphous when in shadow, these senses are perceived by the Shade using every part of the Shade's body. Shades will make a loud sound when they are calling to their siblings and this, to mortals, sounds like a woman screaming for her life.

Civilization and Culture

History

Shar has always had a rivalry with her sister Selûne as they both fought for control of the night. This rivalry lead these sisters to encourage conflict between their Divine Factions. As punishment Ao would force the two sisters to be together for night to occur. Darkness could not fall upon Ümbria without the moon and the moon could not rise if the darkness had not fallen. Shar's children, the Shades, would be highly subject to Selûne's will, as much of their mother's darkness would be tainted by Selûne's moonlight. Due to the punishments put upon Shades during The gods War, Shades can be damaged by magical light. Shades dance through the shadows hunting those who disrespect their home and their mother's darkness.
