Gnomes

Ümbria's short, nimble, innovative, and magically attuned race of hardworking alchemists, miners, scouts, engineers, and druids.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Gnomes are a humanoid race. Gnomes resemble shorter / smaller Elves in many ways. Gnomes have pointed ears, high cheekbones, long faces, and large eyes. Gnomes have larger eyes allowing them to have far better eye sight than that of many other races beeing able to see further and with much more clarity.

Genetics and Reproduction

A female Gnome will carry her unborn child for close to a year before giving birth.

Growth Rate & Stages

Live for around 300 - 500+ years. 5 stages of life: 0-7 baby, 8-17 child, 18-80 young adult, 81-299 adult, 300+ elder. (all in years)

Ecology and Habitats

Deep Gnomes: Deep Gnomes live in caves, underground caverns, inside mountains, and in The Underdark.   Forest Gnomes: Forest Gnomes tend to build tree houses deep within the forests, jungles, and woods of Ümbria.   Both Forest and Deep Gnomes tend to live in areas away from other races / other groups of Gnomes (also known as a "knot") and attempt to build their villages / homes / towns in ways to stay clear of those other races / other groups. Where as Halflings tend to stay close enough to certain races / towns to be available for transactions, material or verse, while also being far enough away to not be involved in any unwanted politics or conflicts; Gnomes try to not advertise their positions to anyone outside of their immediate knot or community.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Like many of the other Ümbrian races, Gnomes eat a mixture of meats, vegetables, and fruits.

Social Structure

Both Forest and Deep Gnomes tend to live in areas away from other races / other groups of Gnomes (also known as "Knots") and attempt to build their villages / homes / towns in ways to stay clear of those other races / other Knots. Where as Halflings tend to stay close enough to certain races / towns to be available for transactions, material or verse, while also being far enough away to not be involved in any unwanted politics or conflicts; Gnomes try to not advertise their positions to anyone outside of their immediate Knot or community.   Forest Gnomes: Forest Gnomes will in forest, jungles, and deep woods. Forest Gnomes have a love for nature and tend to focus their efforts / passion into studying plants, animals, geology (not as intensely as Deep Gnomes), geography, and medicine to help and protect the nature as well as those in nature. Many Forest Gnomes become very skilled alchemists, rangers, and druids.   Deep Gnomes: Deep Gnomes live in caves, underground caverns, and some can be found in The Underdark. Deep Gnomes who live in The Underdark are sometimes refered to as Dark Gnomes. Deep and Dark Gnomes often become miners of precious stones found in the earth and caves around their home. Dark Gnomes also harvest the luminescent crystals and flora of The Underdark. Many Deep Gnomes become very skilled miners, mushroom farmers, jewlers, alchemists, engineers, and crafters of magically attuned items.   Both Deep and Forest Gnomes form very tight knit communities called "Knots". Gnome Knots, with some exceptions, have little governmental structure with most Gnome valuing freedom over power or control. Gnomes tend to "live and let live" when it come to other Gnomes as well as other races. Gnomes are free to choose what they want to do with their lives and how to do it. Gnome Knots generally will have a council made up of of any and all Gnomes wanting to be a part of the council. The council will meet and discuss and topics and events of concern or interest. These meetings are usually short and to the point with most Gnome wanting to get back to work, study, or play.   Many Forest Gnomes worship Chauntea, Silvanus, Lliira, and Mielikki.   Many Deep / Dark Gnomes worship Shar, Chauntea, Silvanus, and Lliira.

Facial characteristics

Pointed ears. Pronounced cheekbones. Large eyes. Thin eyebrows.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Gnomes see through their eyes, hear through their ears, smell through their noses, feel through their skin, and communicate through their mouth / throat. Gnomes have larger eyes allowing them to have far better eye sight than that of many other races beeing able to see further and with much more clarity.
