Dwarves

Ümbria's stout but sturdy race of engineers, miners, and warriors

Basic Information

Anatomy

Dwarves are a humanoid race. Dwarves look similar to Humans but are much shorter and stouter on average. Dwarf muscles are on average stronger than that of a Human muscle even at the same size. Dwarf's also have thicker bones than Humans making them much stockier than a Human of the same height.    Male Dwarves grow facial and body hair slower than many other races (which is why male Dwarves take great pride in their beards) with most the said grown hair being located on the face, chest, and arms. Female Dwarves also grow hair very slowly (which is why female Dwarves take great pride in their hair) but do not grow hair on most of their bodies or faces.    Most Dwarves have large noses and ears.    Dwarves tend to have hair colors close to brown and red with black and blonde being very rare. Dwarven hair is also usually curly.    The skin of a Dwarf is generally light due to genes and lack of direct sunlight.    Dwarven eye colors are usually close to that of Humans (blues, browns, and greens) with the addition of orange. A Dwarf's eyes are about the same size to a Human's but a Dwarf's eye has a larger pupil. This part of the Dwarf's eye allows the Dwarf to have very good low light vision but also makes them sensitive to extreme changes in light levels.    Dwarves also have very effective and tough livers and digestive systems allowing for a high tolerance to alcohol and poisons/toxins.   Dwarves are nearly unaffected by most natural temperatures. Harsh cold and heat does little to affect a Dwarf's internal body temperature. A Dwarf can spend days on mountain tops or in the sweltering heat of deep caverns with little to no negative side effects. Dwarves are not impervious to temperature based damage however, fire and ice will burn and freeze a Dwarf respectively.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Most Dwarves are a part of clans with ranging types of hierarchies/power structures. Many clans are based around a family structure with each dwarf apart of the "family" with one smaller group of blood family members controling most of the governing issues. Some clans are based around a council of elders while other are ruled by a monarch. The most common export of a Dwarven clan or group is that on precious jewels, gems, minerals, and ores. Dwarves often set up vast networks of tunnels and equipment for the sole purpose of mining large sections of mountains and caverns.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Worldwide, centered around/near mountain ranges.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Dwarves see through their eyes, hear through their ears, smell through their noses, feel through their skin, and communicate through their mouth / throat. A Dwarf's eyes are about the same size to a Human's but a Dwarf's eye has a larger pupil. This part of the Dwarf's eye allows the Dwarf to have very good low light vision but also makes them sensitive to extreme changes in light levels.

Common Taboos
