Character Creation

  • Use 27-point buy to determine your character's stats. See PHB page 13 or use this resource.
  • All characters start with a free feat at level 1.
  • We use Milestone Leveling. You don't need to track XP, each character will be leveled up after various sessions.
  • Instead of rolling for HP, take the average and round up. (e.g. the average roll of a 6-sided dice is 3.5, so you would round up and gain 4 HP).
  • You use may take feats in lieu of an Ability Score Improvement.
  • 1st level characters start with either all the equipment and gold granted by your class and background, OR the gold for their class on the following table. Additionally, characters starting at 2nd level or higher start with 50gp for each level, and can start with one item from your previous character. • The dice used for Unarmed Attacks by Monks has been increased by one size (e.g. a d4 becomes a d6, a d6 becomes a d8, etc).

Backgrounds

  • All Characters must be an adult (e.g. Human characters must be at least 18 years old, Aarakocra must be at least 3 years old, and Elves must be at least 90-100 years old.)
  • Reflavoring is allowed, but all characters must ultimately still be recognizable as a member of their race.

Travel and Encumbrance

Each character must consume at least two pounds of food and one gallon of water a day, equivalent to one ration and two waterskins, respectively. If a character does not eat at least this amount, then the character gains one point of exhaustion per day without eating. Consuming the requisite amount of food and water clears this exhaustion.   We are using the Variant Encumbrance Rules. The rules for encumbrance are as follows:
  • If you carry weight in excess of 5 times your Strength score, you are encumbered, which means your speed drops by 10 feet.
  • If you carry weight in excess of 10 times your Strength score, up to your maximum carrying capacity, you are instead heavily encumbered, which means your speed drops by 20 feet and you have disadvantage on ability checks, attack rolls, and saving throws that use Strength, Dexterity, or Constitution.
  • Fall damage now deals 2d6 damage for every 10ft past the first 10ft. Any fall past 100ft is instantly fatal for characters, unless the character has a way to survive a fall (E.g. a fly speed, or the spell Feather Fall)

Spells

  • Goodberry now consumes the material component when cast.

Downtime

  • While in-between adventures, your character might choose to take an action that requires a significant time investment to complete, such as research, building a custom caravan wagon, or carousing the streets. Such activities are encouraged, and you can find rules for them here: Downtime
