WorldEmber 2021 Pledge
WORLDEMBER IS HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I pledge to write a minimum of 10,000 new words of worldbuilding in Melior during WorldEmber 2021
Goals
Wordcount Goals
- 10k words* - I aspire to reach the minimum wordcount completion goal for WorldEmber before the 24th so that I have plenty of time for writing extra words, polishing my articles, or making artwork and graphics
- 25k words* - This is the stretch goal that I will try to achieve by the end of the competition! I feel like it's achieveable if I schedule my time well and don't feel too stressed with burnout
- * For either of these milestones, I will aim to go OVER the wordcount by at least 3,000 words to account for the ridiculous amount of BBCode that gets included in my article wordcounts.
Personal Goals
- STUB-B-GONE - Looking at my humungous pile of UnfinishedShitTM is daunting and I don't want this to happen again. This year I want to expand as many stubs as I can!
- Daily Routine - I want to continue my habit of worldbuilding every day by setting aside some time first thing in the morning to get my writing done! Once WorldEmber is over
I'll be planning for next WorldEmber!!I'll continue this by polishing older articles or chipping away at answering my 400 prompts. - Be proud of every creation - I am learning from my mistakes of rushing things and this year I am making sure that I am satisfied with each thing that I do in my worldbuilding.
Planning
Old Stubs & New Ideas
I made a planning tool in Google Sheets to help me sort out my jumbled ideas, give them priorities and also help me decide what to do next! So far I've added in my list of existing stubs and set a priority level for each of them so that I know what's the most important for me to create during WorldEmber this year. I figured other folks here might find it useful too, so I made it available as a FREE (or pay what you want) resource that anyone can use!GOTTA GO SLOW!
I completed three writing sprints alongside Naelin as part of my preparation - my average writing speed seems to be about 18 words per minute when rambling a load of worldbuilding!Link me your articleblock in the comments and I'll read your pledge document!
TJ's Top Tips
- If a picture is worth 1,000 words, why not get at least ten images ready to inspire your writing?
- Answer ANY prompt in 300 words or more by writing 50 words for each question: WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHY, WHEN, and HOW?
- Keep your burnout in check and go at your own pace.
- Only do what YOU want to do.
- ONLY COMPETE WITH YOUR PAST SELF.
400 Inspiring Worldbuilding Prompts
Stuck for ideas, or prefer a prompt based challenge? Check out my list of 400 worldbuilding prompts (suitable for any genre)! It's free (or pay what you want), just name your price and grab your copy! The prompts are all organised by World Anvil template, and I'll be using these to inspire my own worldbuilding when I get stuck about three days into WorldEmber xD
