The Nurbotu Scarfolk are a very close-knit community from Anvil that have been unfairly branded by the outside world as a group of outcasts and troublemakers due to their uncivilised methods of survival and living.
These false accusations have caused great mistrust between the scarfolk and city dwellers, so they have come up with ways to safely communicate with each other when travelling into the major capital markets to trade.
One of the methods they use is black plantain skins, which when placed in certain positions can indicate various meanings for a trader, such as a merchant’s stock being about to spoil in the next few days (so be sure to ask for a discounted price and consume your goods quickly), or perhaps that the merchant is well connected and can supply you with other wares that are not visible on the table.
However, the real insider knowledge comes from their banter. Here are a few examples that you can hear around the marketplace:
