Embertonian Grubs
HISTORY OF GRUBS
Grubs of various species are native to the wet woodlands and swamps of north central faerie. They are particularly diverse in the area around emberton. Grubs have been eaten in the area longer than there have been post-corruption cities. It has even been proposed that grubs were eaten by pre-corruption inhabitants of Sivia, but this has been impossible to prove. The variety of grub based dishes grew dramatically during the rise of the Emberton Empire, as new cultures and ingredients were introduced to the region. The popularity of grub meat spread with the empire. In many areas, it was considered a great status symbol to eat grubs. Grubs have remained popular throughout the faerie empire. Their association with Emberton Culture made then a major focus of the revivals of the middle dynasties.GRUBS IN MODERN FAERIE
While grubs are still a popular food, what counts as a delicacy has narrowed to more specific species. There has been an increasing push back against grub meat in some areas seeking independence. This has been met with little success and even some opposition, as many claim that the grub based dishes are as much their culture as it is emberton.TYPES OF GRUBS
Pink Groundlings- A slightly rarer variety, the pink groundling is a pink, two foot long grub that live primarily within hallowed out tree trunks. They are one of the most intelligent type of grub, and therefore one of the hardest to catch. Glowers- These six inch long, bioluminescent grubs are among the easiest to catch. Their moderately large size and bright glow make them easy to pick out among the leaves where they live. Unfortunately, the wild glower population has been nearly hunted to extinction. These are the second most common farm variety grub. Big Browns- Big browns are an entirely domestic species of grub. They are the most common farm variety, and for good reason. These dark brown grubs can grow up to 4 feet long and produce almost a dozen pounds of usable grub meat. Big Brown is the cheapest variety of grub meat on the market. Laced Grubs- Laced Grubs are one of the rarest and most sought over delecy grubs. They only grow to be about 4 inches long, and are very thin and delicate. They get their name from their distinctive, lace-like markings. The grubs are often a pale pink, purple, or blue colour. Common Greens- The most common variety of wild grub and third most common farmed grub, common greens are exactly what they sound like: Foot long green grubs with the second least expensive meat. Lily Worms- Another delicacy grub, Lily worms are a rare breed from the swamps. They are very small, rarely bigger than two inches long. Lily worms come in shades of white and pale yellow, and are used in many delicacy dishes. Their eyes are especially popular in south faerie.Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
This was a fun one to read! :D Are there any recipes that call specifically for grub meat (or even some particular variety)?
