Palace of Dread

"We marched to the gate house. I ordered the men to batter down the door. We broke it down without trouble. We never could have prepared for what awaited us on the other side..."   -Commander of the 8th army

Purpose / Function

Last known base and home of the Reapers-Guild. The original home of the last Reapers-Guild King before his destruction through Alan the Adventurer's conquest against the Reapers-Guild. Currently home of the new Reapers-Guild Queen, Vivilon Conquedor. Used as her home and as the last place Reapers-Guild is able to use their death magic.

Design

The outside of the Palace is made of dark, weathered stone. The palace looks abandon from the outside. A bridge/pathway across the freshwater lake leads to the gate house of the palace walls. This bridge is lined with 50 stone pillars, 25 pillars on each side, 25 feet apart. Each pillar is holding up a gargoyle, looking down at the path. The gate is thick and wooden. Gargoyles also sit upon the gatehouse walls. The inside of the Palace is finely decorated with gold and silver adornments. The floor is made of marble on the main floor. Floors on the levels above are made of high quality blood wood.

Entries

The main entrance is a large wooden double door that leads into the entrance hall. A bridge/pathway across the water leads to this door way. Windows are barred and have wooded shutters on the inside of the room. One back door leads to the shore where freshwater is available and a dock is set for many large boats. Another back door leads to a small watch tower on the direct backside of the palace.

Sensory & Appearance

The palace is an eerie and almost silent place. Noise is uncommon, for spells and canceled noise from the floor. the floor is marble and the walls are white with gold decorations. It seems as if it is abandon, yet it is also the most magnificent looking place in the world. Some of the rooms contain a black mist the prevents the occupant(s) from seeing. Only when an occupant holds a Blood Burner lantern may the occupant(s) see through this black mist and examine the room.

Denizens

Home to those who have turned to the Reapers-Guild. Those who hate all and wish to take all away from others come to the Reapers-Guild and find themselves here. The Lost are also found within the catacombs beneath the palace. The Lost wander their cells until they are used in the ceremonies and rituals.

Contents & Furnishings

Weapons hang from the walls in most rooms and hallways of the palace. These are typically only used for display, yet they are still finely crafted weapons. Black wood is used to make all of the furniture. From the chairs and tables, to the beds and shelving. Magic items can be found in the rooms. They are hard to find because they blend in with all of the other ordinary, yet still expensive and rare, items in the rooms and halls.

Valuables

The rooms and halls are decorated with gold and silver decorations, as well as finely crafted weapons are hung on the walls throughout the palace.

Hazards & Traps

Many rooms are designed so that only those tainted with the Reapers-Guild magic are able to pass through. Traps may be in rooms to stop those not in the Reapers-Guild from ever leaving the room they entered.

Special Properties

The floors through the Palace have been affected by a spell that cancels noise. Noises like footsteps or a dropped item hitting the floor are completely silent.

Alterations

Originally decorated with crimson banners and blood red walls, the palace was redone by the Queen's personal Alchemist to change most of the dark and gloomy dungeon into an extravagant palace fit for a Queen. The blood red banners remain as they are the symbol of the Reapers-Guild. The exterior still remains the dark stone building it was before. But now the buildings interior is the most magnificent building throughout the entire world.

Architecture

The building is designed with a Gothic architectural style. Pointed roofs, spiked crenelations, and gargoyles cover the palace. Stone columns and pillars erect from the floor and ground, some supporting weight, others simply holding gargoyles.

History

Home to the many kings and queens of old of the Reapers-Guild. The death cult held it's most important meetings, ceremonies, and rituals at this palace. Decorated with black and red for many years before Alan the Adventurer came and destroyed those of the Reapers-Guild and their demonic cult.
