Three years after the first sighting of the Xenos, the Union diverted most of its manpower and resources into stopping their rapid spread. This proved to be insufficient, however, as their standard military weapons eventually became no longer effective against the Xenos. This led to the idea of training soldiers to be more efficient and effective in fighting the Xenos, which eventually lead to the establishment of the Lancer Program.
This was one of the historic battle in the history of mankind. After discovering the hostile organism known as Xenos, the Union have been sending most of the efforts of the Military and Exploration Sector to stop the advancements of the Xenos on the edge of the Andromeda galaxy. One of the planets there, Lascilla, was one of the research colonies to be located near the ongoing war between the Xenos and mankind. Eventually, Lascilla suddenly went silent on the 13th day of the 1st month of 3124, as the Xenos managed to overwhelm the Union forces trying to stop them near the planet. Eva Agoncillo and her squad was sent to the planet, along with other reinforcements in order to stop the swarm and save the people of the planet. They were able to save everyone, at the cost of Eva's life however, as she sacrificed herself to let her companions and other Union personnel to escape the planet. Eva was then deemed KIA at the Battle on Lascilla. As of today, every communication or rescue effort sent to Lascilla goes silent, and whoever goes in there never comes back or heard from ever again.
A month after the attack on Lascilla, the Xenos took everyone completely by surprise, as their swarms quickly overran the planet colony of Rathos Prime. Due to the unexpected attack, the Union station posted there didn't have enough time to launch a counter-offensive as they were quickly overwhelmed by the sheer number of Xenos on the planet. No one knows what exactly happened, and how the Xenos managed to elude the scans and security of the Rathos Prime Station.
The characters only had a few days of rest after graduating before receiving their first assignments. They all met up at Space Dock 9. Some tensions arose as some of them already know each other. They all eventually rode the shuttle named "Normandy" which will take them to Keplar 22-B, their first posting as Lancers.
