Demographics

No census of California has ever been conducted since it gained its independence in 2096, however going by earlier statistics is it assumed its population is 46% white, 33% Latino, 12% Asian Americans, 7% Black and 2% Native American.

Government

A transitional government currently governs California. Olivia Williams Jones is the current acting-President of California and governs alongside a cabinet of ministers chosen from various fields of life in California. The Catholic Alliance have three honorary positions reserved in the 20-member cabinet.

Defences

California has raised a military of around 30,000 soldiers. Further, 25,000 soldiers of the Catholic Alliance are also stationed in California to provide military aid as the state fears an attack from the United States of America.

History

California was a part of the United States of America till the year 2096. In the year 2072, the 10th Crusade resulted in the Catholic Alliance stepping into U.S. mainland. They established the Californian Sleeper Cell, a team of nearly a thousand well trained military officers who could, on very short notice, organise a Californian militia to help the state gain independence or raise forces.
Though the sentiment then was against the Catholic Alliance, as the central authority in the United States was strengthened the Californian state held a referendum in which it elected to be independent. As the United States refused, the Catholic Alliance offered assistance which California accepted. The Sleeper Cell organised nearly 10,000 well-trained troops that managed to secure the State with minimal casualties. Before the United States could launch a full-scale recapture effort, the Papal States deployed over 100,000 soldiers to land in California. After a year of hostilities, the United States sued for peace. The Papal States had successfully defended California. Now, a token force of 55,000, including 30,000 from the Californian Army is the force responsible for the defence.
2098 is slated to be the year for the first democratic elections in California.
