Wall Eater (siege engine)

This is a siege engine that has a massive pick that is raised and then allowed to come crashing down to eat away at walls and fortifications. It was invented by the Kingdom of lefan during the 4th century B.B. It was later acquired by the Berini Empire when they conquered one of their colonies during the reign of Angeli I of Berin in the 1st century A.B.
Wall Eater (siege engine) cover
A skematic for how the wall eater works. The design of the head always has a few design features that are always present, but the aesthetic changed depending on the time and who was the artisan who made the head. You can see Bird dragons, brontodragons, lions, elephants, mythological creatures, pickaxes etc. Usually it's something with it's mouth wide open ready to eat whatever it descends upon. Some of the obstacles that has the most trouble dealing with are mud which can bog it down or cyclopian walls made of decent stone which the head has trouble crushing, breaking, crumbling , tearing or yanking out of place.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The head serves as a giant pickaxe that "eats" at walls and fortifications by crushing them or by tearing or yanking out bits and pieces. It was originally gravity powered, but in the 2nd century A.B it was modified to also have a rope torsion spring as an axle to increase it's devastating power. The head is pulled up using a series of cranks and pulleys operated by a team of men and then the bronze/iron/steel head is allowed to slam down and break whatever it falls on.

Significance

Used for tearing out breeches in walls that cut off the defender's communications along the walls and open a breach that allows troops to enter and storm the inside of the fortifications.
