Ferrogladia

The ferrogladia , which means "iron sword" in Berinus Fren-Chital, was the sword archetype that was used by soldiers in the Berini military during the early to middle Berinus Dynasty, but also for the last few decades of the Kingdom of Berin that proceeded it. The design was easy to manufacture and it did the job well; it was a backup weapon that was pretty good at thrusts with it's stiff and pointy blade, and very good at cuts and chops with it's hefty leaf-shaped blade.

Raw materials & Components

The sword is made out of a mild steel or iron blade and tang, a pair of handle scales (usually wood) and four bronze pegs. Initially, the entire blade and tang were entirely made of one piece of iron. Later, when mild steel "officially entered use, the blade was made of mild steel with the central rib and tang being made of iron and forge welded to the blade. The handle scales were usually made of hardwood, but sometimes even out of wood or ivory, and and were given an ergonomic shape the was very comfortable to hold and provided a rock-solid grip. The holes in the handle scales were flared out towards the outside so that the pegs would be shaped into the holes once they were hammered in. This was to make sure that the handle scales wouldn't come off.
