A character that has been successfully added to a campaign and party is not showing up in the drop-down to add to a session when creating or editing a session. The character shows in the campaign as a protagonist, and in the party as a member.

Steps to Reproduce

Go to campaign management. Select sessions. Click Edit Session. Click drop-down for Protagonists (PCs). Notice that character is missing. Spend hours trying to figure out what you did wrong. Drink some coffee. Search internet and get lost in strange Reddit threads based on UIs that are many versions old. Drink more coffee. Ask player to verify steps they took to join campaign. Drink more coffee. Take many screenshots, and annotate them. Go to bug report form. Realize that there is no place to upload screenshots. Realize that you are out of coffee. Submit bug report.

Can you please give us more specific information so we can investigate this for you?

Which campaign, which character, how was this character added

jmandala @ 21 Dec, 2025 02:25:23

Absolutely - sorry about that. Relevant information below.

World: Rhios

Campaign: Chapter 0: Introduction to Rhios

Session: Session 1: The Days of Long Water

Party: The Company

Character: Rothgar Stonebreaker, added with manual link invitation by player, who likely created character just after creating account

Please let me know if any other information would be useful.

Thank you I will begin the investigation

I'm having exactly the same problem. Three of my PC will appear in the list, where two (who have followed exactly the same steps) do not.

Hey jmandala, the Rothgar character was not visible in the Session characters dropdown because they were missing a type field to indicate they are a PC type character. I have manually fixed that but I am not sure how that happened - can you tell me how this character was created (as in you as the GM made them and transferred them to the player or sent the player an email invite or join link ect) ? Also, was this character at any point an NPC? Or were they removed from the World/Campaign and then rejoined? Any information will help me figure out the root cause of this issue.

I sent the player a link invite (join link) which they used. The character was not at any point an NPC. I did not create the character. I don't think the character was ever removed and re-added; if this is an admin/GM function, then I can be certain it did not happen (if the player can do it, I'm not 100% certain). It is entirely possible (though I don't recall due to the time that has passed) that I manually did something to the character after it was joined to the campaign. As a matter of fact, I vaguely recall trying to create a stat block for Rothgar, and giving up on that process for now. I did not do this for the other characters. Perhaps the process of selecting the system, and then unselecting it, is related?

Thanks for the information, the system and block were not the cause but it set me on the path to finding the actual cause (an initialization issue when a new user creates a character). I will be closing this report since the issue is resolved for you and I am implementing a fix for other users!
