Mine is always no count (blank).

Mine is also blank despite having a few hundred notifications and receiving two more today.

my counter came back this morning... empty now as I cleared my notifications but I will give it a day and report back.

I'm up to 19 now, but after deleting the notifications from the messages posted here, it didn't go down... actually still have 12 notifications inside there, but it keeps showing 19.   Edit: it appears that the number isn't updated directly after removing a bunch of notifications, but a certain time has to pass before it changes.

I have a counter, but I wish it would show me the exact number instead of "99+" I assume that's a space issue, to keep the menu slim, but it doesn't tell me if I have new notifications. Well...after all, it really is my responsibility to keep them down to a reasonable number.
