Onmyōdō Shaman

Shaman of the Far East, the Onmyōdō Shaman, called an Onmyōji, specializes in protective and sealing magics above all else. They are experts in divination and defense against magical creatures, spirits, and demons. Taking this path is one of honor, composure, and dedication to uprooting the unnatural from the lives of innocent. You will learn to seal creatures away, shield yourself and others, and enlist the assistance of powerful spirits.

The Onmyōdō is well respected wherever they go, with incredible composure and manners that make them approachable to all. They are cunning combatants, well protected by the spirits they enlist.

Senzē Sticks
At 3rd level, when you claim this tradition, you may attempt to see what kind of fate awaits you or another person if a certain decision is made. You throw 6 bamboo sticks into a fire. If 3 or fewer of the sticks crack, a lucky fate awaits you or the chosen target. If 4 or more of the sticks crack, an unlucky fate awaits. Should any of the sticks explode, death waits for the chosen target if this choice is made.
Shikigami
At 3rd level, when you claim this tradition, you may spend a short rest creating 4 paper dolls. These dolls may be in any simple shape you decide, such as a bird, small person, or cat. You may activate these dolls, allowing friendly spirits called Shikigami to possess and animate them. While these dolls are active, they will block Magic Missile spells, as well as ranged physical attacks. You may also use a bonus action to make a ranged spell attack, sending a doll to stick to a target and cast a ranged or touch spell attack on success. The doll is destroyed even if the attack fails. You may not have more than 4 dolls active at any time, and you cannot have more than 6 dolls created at any time.
Onmyōdō Shaman Totems
At 3rd level, when you claim this tradition, your totems list expands. Onmyōdō shaman craft their totems on long, thin planks of wood that are painted red for good luck, followed by carefully painted prayers in an Eastern language. When active, these planks stick to any surface they are placed on and shine with a subtle radiant light, growing bright in the presence of undead, outsiders, fiends, and celestials.
  • Purification. You and your allies within 30 feet gain advantage on saving throws against spells and effects that cause conditions for 1 minute. Alternatively, cast purify food and drink without expending a spell slot.
  • Protection. *requires level 10 Allows you to cast Spirit Guardians as a 5th level spell without expending a spell slot.
  • Repose.  When activated, you and your allies within 30 feet gain advantage on Wisdom saving throws for 1 minute, protecting their minds and souls from intrusion. Additionally, as a reaction, you can invoke the repose of the spirits to instantly end one condition afflicting you or an ally within range, ending the effects of the totem when you do so.
  • Invocation. When activated, you and your allies within 30 feet gain advantage on attack rolls for 1 minute, bolstering your combat prowess
  • Punishment. *requires level 10 Upon activation, for 1 minute, creatures that attack you and allied creatures within 30 feet of the totem recieve damage equal to half the damage dealt.
Mystic Barrier
At 6th level, you create 10 paper seals. These can be placed in a circle up to 30ft, and create an invisible barrier that magical creatures, magical items, and spells cannot pass through. The barrier has a number of hit points equal to your Shaman level multiplied by 3. The barrier is damaged by spells and antimagic effects. If the barrier's HP falls to 0, or any of the paper seals are removed from their placement, the barrier falls. Otherwise, the barrier will remain for up to 8 hours.
At 10th level, you may instead place one of these seals on a creature. The creature must make a Constitution save against your spell save DC or be paralyzed for 1d4 rounds, after which the seal will turn to ashes.
Shikigami: Formation
At 10th level, the mystical paper dolls you craft can be used to create a small sized construct by aligning four active paper dolls. You cannot have any paper dolls active while this feature is active. Your construct has 10hp, and is vulnerable to fire. When not in combat, you may meditate to control the construct and see and hear through it. The construct cannot be more than 300ft away from you. Any scrying magic used to see the paper construct will reveal you to the spellcaster. You may choose from the following formations:
  • The Tortoise. A tortoise measuring 3ft tall that cannot fly, and has a movement speed of 35ft. When stationary, it is unrecognizable as a construct, and cannot be damaged by water.
  • The Dragon. An Eastern Dragon with a fly speed of 60ft. May choose a target to make a Dexterity saving throw. If the target fails, it is grappled. May bite a grappled target for 1d6 piercing damage.
  • The Phoenix. A large paper bird resembling a Phoenix, with a fly speed of 60ft. It will block spells, regenerate 2hp per turn, and may be burned to stabilize a dying person when the ashes fall on them.
  • The Tiger. A small white tiger measuring 3ft tall that cannot fly, and has a movement speed of 35ft. May use claws to deal 1d6 slashing damage, and become invisible for up to 5 minutes. May Sneak Attack under the correct conditions according to the Rogue ability.
You cannot use this feature again until you complete a short or long rest.
Exorcist
At 14th level, you have mastered the art of the Onmyōdō Shaman. All creatures that are undead, fiends, aberrations, and monstrosities have disadvantage when attacking you, as well as when rolling against your spell save DC. You deal an additional 1d10 damage to any of the above listed creatures, and cannot be possessed by ghosts, and are resistant to any spells cast from the above listed creatures that would charm, frighten, paralyze, or make you sleep.
