Amphibious. You can breathe air and can breath in water.
Attuned to the Ocean. You ignore any drawbacks from being in a deep underwater environment.
Control of Water. As a child of the sea, you learn throughout youth the importance and power of water, and thus gain a degree of control over water. You can cast fog cloud with this trait. Starting at 3rd level, you can cast wave of water with this trait. Starting at 5th level, you can cast wall of water with this trait. You can cast each of these spells once (unless you use a spell slot to do so), and regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells. If you have another spellcasting ability, you may use it instead.
Emissary of the Sea. Aquatic creatures are related by blood to your people. You can communicate simple ideas with beasts that can breathe water. They can understand the meaning of your words, though you have no ability otherwise to understand them in return.
Natural Swimmer. You have a swim speed equal to your walk speed. Anything that would increase or decrease your walk speed would do the same to your swim speed.
Subrace. Meridians come in three distinct subraces. Choose from Pelagic, Benthic, or Lavaborne.
Pelagic
Pelagic Meridians are born near the surface of waters. They have a better time communicating with other races.
Ability Score Increase. Your Charisma score increases by 1.
Marshland Adaptation. Your people have lived in shallow waters most times and even in the deepest of marshlands. You thus have poison damage resistance and resistance to the poisoned status.
Benthic
Benthic Meridians are born near the depths of the ocean. They are fit for surviving in the deepest of underwater territory.
Ability Score Increase. Choose between Strength and Constitution. That score increases by 1.
Depth Adaptation. Living near the ocean depths and hunting sea wyverns young and old has given your people a degree of survival in such conditions. You can see in dim light out to 60 feet as if it were bright light and darkness as if it were dim light. You cannot discern colour in darkness, only shades of grey. You also have resistance to cold damage.
Lavaborne
A special case of Meridians who have grown up in volcanic conditions, eventually becoming attuned to the very lava surrounding them.
By taking this subrace, you lose the following traits.
- Attuned to the Ocean
- Control of Water
- Emissary of the Sea
- Natural Swimmer
You gain new abilities to replace these ones, all of which are related to fire.
Ability Score Increase. Choose between Constitution or Wisdom. That score increases by 1.
Attuned to the Magma. You ignore any drawbacks from being in a deep "underwater" environment when submerging yourself in lava or magma.
Control of Fire. Born near fire and lava, you have become adept at understanding the element of fire. You can cast fog cloud with this trait. Starting at 3rd level, you can cast heat metal with this trait. Starting at 5th level, you can cast fireball with this trait. You can cast each of these spells once (unless you use a spell slot to do so), and regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells. If you have another spellcasting ability, you may use it instead.
Emissary of Brimstone. You have a degree of relation to creatures that have a relation to fire. You can communicate simple ideas to any creature that is naturally immune to fire or has a fire breath attack. They can understand your words, but you can't understand them back.
Lavasurfer. You have swim speed in lava equal to your walk speed. Anything that would increase or decrease your walk speed would do the same to this swim speed. You cannot use this to effectively swim in other liquids.
Volcanic Adaptation. Living in hot climates and high altitudes has given you some of the best resistance to heat. You are immune to fire damage, lava, and magma. You are also always acclimated to high altitudes.
