The quill grants the following benefits in it's dormant state:

• When using the quill, you are considered proficient in forgery kits and you have advantage on ability checks made to forge documents.


• You can cast Illusory Script from the quill at will.


• Cosmic Journal
  As an action you can summon a cosmic journal. This journal is specific to you. It has an infinite number of pages and only your cosmic quill can write in it. If any creature other than you attempts to read the journal, it appears blank. Over the course of a long rest, you can choose any number of creatures of your choice, granting them access to read from the journal. You can remove this ability at any time (no action required). As an action, you can dismiss the journal safely to a pocket dimension or resummon it. Any damage done do to the journal is instantly mended when it is resummoned. Anything you write in the journal remains until you unattune to it, or die.

• When you cast illusory script from the quill, you can choose for the duration to be 1 hour, 1 day, or until dispelled.


• When using the quill, you can use an action to cast the following spells from it: skywrite, sending. When a spell from this list has been cast using the quill, it's word limit is doubled and it can't be used to cast that spell again until the next dawn.


• When you are targeted with a melee attack and you are not carrying a shield, you can use your reaction to give yourself +3 to your AC against it. After this feature is used twice, it can't be used again until the next dawn.

• When you summon or dismiss the cosmic journal, you can have it appear in the hands of a creature you've granted the ability to read from it.


• When you use the quill to attempt to deflect an attack, you can give yourself +5 to your AC instead of +3.


• Once per day, you can cast the spell word of recall with a designation of a location you've written about in your cosmic journal.
