Your Manuscripts novel will be divided into chapters and scenes. Here's how to create them!
What are scenes and chapters?
In Manuscripts, scenes are the actual text documents where you'll write your novel. Chapters are folders that group one or more scenes together. When reading a Manuscript on World Anvil, all scenes within a chapter will be seamlessly merged into a single page.
How to create a Scene
- Access Manuscripts by clicking Manuscripts in the left sidebar.
- Upon creating a Manuscript you will automatically have a chapter and a scene right under it, on the left. Click on the existing scene.
- Then, click on the green plus button on the top left to create a new scene.
- By default the new scene will be created right underneath the previously selected one.
- Name the scene using the Title field on the right.
How to create a Chapter
Basic method
- To create a chapter, click on the green small downward arrow right next to the green plus button on the top left.
- Select Folder.
- The new chapter will appear right underneath the previously selected item.
- Name the chapter using the Title field on the right.
Quick chapter creation
Alternatively, you can also create multiple chapters in a row. This is useful if you already have a detailed outline or a rough image of how long your novel will be.
- On the top left, click the title of your Manuscript.
- Select Review mode at the top right of your screen.
- You will see all of your chapters listed in the middle of the page. To create new chapters, click on the green +Create a new Folder button at the bottom of your listed chapters.
- You can add titles to them directly on that page, and also write the synopsis for each chapter.
