Manuscripts is World Anvil's novel-writing software. You can use it to write, edit, and even publish your stories with a seamless integration with your world. On the left in the Manuscripts interface, you can find a list of all your chapters and scenes. Scenes are your actual text documents—where your words will go. Chapters are like folders that help keep you organized. If you'd like to create scenes and chapters in Manuscripts, follow the steps below.
How to create a Scene
- Access Manuscripts by clicking Manuscripts in the left sidebar.
- Upon creating a Manuscript you will automatically have a chapter and a scene right under it, on the left. Click on the existing scene (Scene 1).
- Then, click on the green plus button on the top left to create a new scene.
- On default the new scene will be created right underneath the previously selected one.
- On the right under Title, you can write a name for that new scene.
How to create a Chapter
1st Way
- To create a chapter, click on the green small downward arrow right next to the green plus button on the top left.
- Select Folder.
- The new chapter will appear right underneath the previously selected item.
- On the right under Title, you can write a name for that new chapter.
2nd Way
- On the top left, click the title of your Manuscript that has a book icon before it.
- Select Review mode at the top right of your screen.
- You will be able to see all of your chapters listed in the middle of the page. To create new chapter(s), click on the green +Create a new Folder button at the bottom of your listed chapters.
- You can add titles to them directly on that page, and also write the Synopsis for each chapter.
You can have as many scenes in a chapter as you like, and you can drag-and-drop everything around in the left sidebar to reorder them!
Changes in the Manuscripts interface are saved automatically.
