I was born in the far north to a merchant family, and my parents knew something was special about me. My blonde hair and blue-golf flecked eyes and an inner, heavinly glow about me made them summon a priest as soon as I took my first breaths. The priest declared that I was a chosen of Assuran (spelling, I don't t have FG open to get spellings correct). I was taken from my parents soon after and inducted into a knightly order sworn to Assuran. They coddled me like a spoiled prince, never wanting to hurt me in training, taking special care to make sure I learned the holy texts. It was irritating being doted over like a mother to her sickly child. It took me breaking my equestrian instructors shins with my "careless" riding for them to treat me like a regular neophyte.
After many years of intense training I was sent on my first mission. It was a massacre. I arrived to a town, burnt to ash, and heads of all the townsfolk on pikes. I asked my commander what had befallen this innocent town and is response shaped who I am today.
He said, "We had intelligence that there was a blood cult in the region, but because of the crimes being limited to livestock, we took no action. This town would never have been saved, for there is no room for error in our holy order , so we cannot be proactive, just reactive. Now we know the cult is a danger, and we will quell them. This town was just a sad casualty to bring our god's fury to these heathens."
I requested a transfer to a different knightly order soon after.
The Order of Assuran pleaded that I was needed, that I could not leave, but they knew my mind was made up, and wanting to make sure I followed the path of my destiny, my birthright, they asked for me to consider one of the many orders that follows Tyr, for Tyr is what the southernfolk Assuran.
I took their request into consideration and joined the Order of the Gauntlet. An order that allows it's members to be devoted to any god so long as they better the realm, and protect the innocent. I fell into a group of knights that followed Tyr and continued my knightly training untill I was finally awarded my knighthood.
For many years I was content, but as I became more engrained into the knightly society, the more I saw how the politics and power struggles caused corruption and inaction. I was a knight to defend the realm. I was knight to help the Innocent. I was a knight to destroy the very thing I saw overtaking those around me.
That all changed when the twin gods spoke to me.
I think that is enough for this evening, I will happily answer more questions, and finish the tale another time.
