9/29 - Where Are We?

by Thomas Boyd

9/29: New Frontier

We're somewhere on the other side of the Galaxy in a binary star system, I think. Something transported us here after the solar flare. The world we're about to investigate is strange and very dangerous, but interesting. I wonder what the place holds for us.

So far, there are two planets within range for us to get to. We haven't named them yet, though. I'm listing the positives and negatives of each.

Planet Alpha:
Positive
- Carbon-based life
- 0.7g gravity
- Large landmasses
- Mineral deposits
- Breathable atmosphere
- Oxygen-producing algae
- Large herds of herbivores
- Safe levels of surface radiation
- Stable climate
- Extensive forests

Negative
- Consistently high winds
- Not a lot of landmass
- Large predators
- High volcanic activity
- Predatory fungus
- Carnivorous algae
- Armored animals
- Large waves
- Large moon with large tides

Planet Beta:
Positive
- Complex underground cave system permeating most of the
planet
- Polar ice caps cover almost half the planet
- Geologically stable
- Underground giant fungal ecosystem
- Mineral-rich (crystals)
- Breathable atmosphere
- .33 G

Negative
- No liquid water
- No magnetosphere
- Thin atmosphere
- No complex animals
- Predatory fungus (same as Planet Alpha)
- South pole always faces the sun
- Almost no water in the southern hemisphere
- Alkali deserts
- Significant radioactive deposits
- Southern-hemisphere dust storms
- Razor-ice fields
