After discussing longer with the others, Myalee pointed out something about the handle of the dagger that was used on Rhodri's mother. I can not remember if it was a symbol, or something else on the dagger that she noticed, but something on the dagger made her recall that it has something to do with a cult that she has had many interactions with. All over, not just in our little town...Sharalee? I'm more than certain I have spelled that incorrectly, but she said it's something evil, something the cult was using; or acting with in order to corrupt the trees? I didn't think to ask her their purpose or reasoning to try to corrupts the forests, My mind was still a little foggy and distracted.
Lady Evelyn took notice of another symbol on the dagger. A Castle over some sort of fish? Apparently it was the symbol of one of the nearby towns, Caer-Dineval. While we were finishing our order at the table, a frantic woman came in, I think someone said her name was...Myrlie?...Myrtle? It began with an "M". The woman seemed quite the gossiper. She was exclaiming about the murder of someone named "Jan Jan" (If others find my journals, please forgive my horrible misspelling of everyone's names or the names of places...), something about another person named "Shrekkie" gobbling up this Jan Jan? ...I think the mead was starting to get to me at this point.
From what I gathered, Jan Jan was having an affair with Ymgarl Broadaxe and his wife, Brenda just found out about this? .... I must say it feels off to discuss these types of things in public, very scandalous. Our group found ourselves traveling to Mrs. Broadaxe's home. There came a loud crash and apparently, someone left from the window. Brave Myalee was ready to jump to the window. She called out about two bears in the room. I ran to her to follow her into the room and as I left a bear had pushed down the front door.
A lady lay unconscious on the floor, with a bear much smaller than the one who pushed the door, looking stressed and uneased. Myalee went to help the lady while I tried to calm the poor little thing. He was just scared, but he calmed once he knew his mistress was all right. The bigger bear though, was much more difficult to soothe but with Lady Evelyn's gentle ways with the animal, we were able to subdue him without a fight. The poor guard whom was with us, I believe her name was Carla didn't escape unscathed. She's badly bruised and beaten, but I think she will be all right in the long run after a well deserved rest. We confronted the husband Ymargl who was hiding under the boards of his brother's house next door. He had smashed a vase or something heavy over his wife's head knocking her out... I guess they are having a fight? I could not imagine doing that to someone who I considered my partner...
After this, we went to talk to the mayor. I really didn't have much to say though, but chose to follow. However, Verrick had gone off on his own. I suppose he had other matters to attend to. We came to another rather busy inn, it looked to be filled with adventurer's... apparently someone Rhodri knew very well. At least, I take it he knew her very well...she did stroke his beard after all. Seemed like an intimate interaction. The groups mentioned traveling to different areas... but there was so much chatter I couldn't hear exact details.
Verrick was brought in by Myalee's husband. He was found over the body of yet another murder victim found in an alley. Killed with ice magic. I may have only just met him and the others... but I don't feel he's guilty of the murder. He claims that he can not use ice magic...however he's been more than cooperative with the authorities. I would think he'd put up a fight to get away if he was truly guilty. Unfortunately, he had to remain in the jail cell for the night. There wasn't much any of us could do. We called it a night and headed back.
...He broke my workstation.... thankfully, I know how to cook a meal over the fireplace. Mellie was supposed to help keep an eye one him...But she was being proposed to...for the 26th time... I fear her condition may be getting worse. I need to find out a way to help her.... But, I don't know who to turn to... I don't even know where to begin to ask for help aside from Genny....
Next Journal Entry After the Morning
I was surprised to see Genny that morning. She usually comes to stock up on herbs for medicines, but I wasn't expecting her so soon. She handed me a vial of liquid asking if I could identify it. Apparently there is a company in Targos that is selling these potions and other types of potions at incredibly low prices. Based on what Genny tells me, prices that seem too good to be true. Who ever made this potion mixed the herbs very well together... There was only one I could pick out that was used to give it a more fragrant smell? Seemed an odd choice... But I believe someone mentioned that we were going past or through Targos. I told Genny I'd try to see if I can find out more information.
We all met up again. Verrick is now under Myalee's charge? I think that's what it was called? Basically she's responsible for him until his trial. Rhodri had mentioned a potion similar to the one Genny gave to me. He was able to identify what the potion actually was. A potion that could fully heal and even fully revive someone who had been dead for up to a year! ....and Genny got this potion for only 30 gold? Something feels terribly wrong with this...so terribly wrong. If this potion works, we could use it to revive the body of the murder victim that the guards think Verrick is guilty of. But, I'm hesitant to do so. We don't know if this potion truly works as intended, or if it's a scam...or if it could do something far worse....
Given the track record... I'm inclined to think the worst...
