Session 2: Friends Lost

by Vegathal Gathakunta

The rabbit made it out of the grasp of the bear, but we were discovered. Heroically, Hringol leapt into battle and as the party assaulted the bear it met it's doom to Hringol's axe. The giant within the cave must have heard us or his beast and came out of the cave as we ended his "fren's" life. Z and others struck true on the giant and it retreated back to his lair. We all readied ourselves for battle as Adriel called upon Snowflake to gain us an advantage. The giant was attempting to flank our position.
Z used this knowledge to take the giant head on and ran into the adjacent cave. We lost sight of him and only heard his cries from within.
The rest of the party tried to take advantageous positions and surround the giant while staying out of range of his brute force. But the giant was too quick for Grelin and he met his end as well.
Hringol stuck the giant and the giant struck back. But the gaint had won the duel and Hringol had met his end.
The party of 6 quickly turned to the party of 3.
Mishaan had snuck into the cave to tend to Z, only to return alone seconds later.
The giant rushed towards me and had his blade not met the might of a goliath, I too would have met my end. But the strength of my lineage persevered.
Adriel, Mishaan, and myself surrounded the giant and assaulted him, avenging our fallen friends.
As we tried to catch our breaths, a demon erupted from the chest of Hringol. He had made comments in our adventures previous about the demon that lived inside him. I believed him to only be speaking in riddles. Turns out there was more to his words than I thought.
We went to check on Z but dicovered not a half elf, but a doppelganger. He had hidden his true form from us. I quickly realized that the silver liquid dripping from the giant's weapon was the blood of Z.
Adriel, Mishaan, and I investigated the rest of the lair. We found the metal that Adriel was so insistent of us recovering. It was the metal from the ship I came to this land on. As Adriel shared the reason he was here and Mishaan gave some insight into his past, I was overcome with emotion and let slip the fact that this metal was from the ship I arrived to this land on. I wasn't some great prophecy. I even told them I still lived with my parents. Adriel talked of a black castle. Mishaan conveyed a message of the north.
But these allies agreed to not reveal my secret. I believe I have found true friends. I hope they do not die like my last friends. I hope I don't die either.
We gathered our spoils and the remaining mead and headed back to Goodmead. As we crossed the place where we discovered the fallen militia was saw no bodies, only footprints. Adriel informed us that this was the work of frost magic.
There is still much to be uncovered in this land, old gods help us.
