Where Ai was born is not quite clear, her parents, Marie and Andrew Hammerforge, always told her that they found her in a cabbage field one night, nevermind that for as long as she lived with them they never grew cabbages. From the moment Ai could think of herself she knew she was different, the people on the street was stare at her as she passed by, the other kids never wanted to play with her, calling her a "goat" and "goat-legs". Sure the adults were better but even there she could see distrust and sometimes disgust with her appearance.
Unable to play with other kids she consumed herself in fairy tales and music. There were two other kids who were just a little shy or just a little weird for the rest of the village who she ended up being friends with: Portia Evergreen, a small human girl a year younger that Ai, with pretty blonde hair and dark brown eyes, and Latice Shavali, an elf boy two years older than Ai, he was awfully tall and lanky with a pudgy nose, tanned skin, black curly hair and greenish eyes. They ended up being friends for Latice was shy and Portia loved listening to Ai read stories. They didn't need all the other kids for their little group was enough.
When Ai was 18, Portia, Latice, and her left the village of WhisperWoods and headed for a bigger city of Neverwinter, along the way they performed on the road and collected tips. It was difficult but eventually they managed to find apprenticeship under one of the many bands of Neverwinter and began performing small time gigs. Sure even here Ai faced some discrimination but with the help of her friends she never let it bring her down.
She was 20 when they broke into the little flat that she shared with Latice and Portia. The wooden door never stood a chance, if there was anyone awake at that hour of the night they looked the other way as the three of them were dragged out and thrown into a cart to be taken who knows where. That was the last time she ever saw her friends. She doesn't remember much of this time clearly, the memory is all clouded with panic.
