mid-Tarsakh, 1492

by Bourdekin

It was a misty Tarsakh day when Bourdekin received a letter at Prince Wakanga O'Tamu's villa in Port Nyanzaru. Upon opening it, the letter reads as follows:

"Dear Doctor Bourdekin,

Greetings and salutations. How do you fare, and how fares Port Nyanzaru? How fares Prince Wakanga, and Grandfather Zitembe, and Mami Wata? Young Prince Na and his sister? Rhogar?
Grammercy and thanks for your patience with all of my questions. It has been many months since I have been able to visit, and I have been rather preoccupied with the Dragon Ward in Waterdeep. But we have been able to find a solution, so with the Blackstaff's good will I hope to be able to return to Chult soon.
How has your research fared these many months? Have you been able to find Omu? Is the Eye still a problem, and is there anything more known about what it is? If it happens to be some kind of beholder, I plan to do some research on how they can be defeated.
Please do give my regards to everyone, and may you remain as fastidious as Azuth.

Sincerely,

Researcher Bryseis"

Bourdekin sat down at the desk in her lab. It had been a long, exciting day of field research, and she finally had gotten Prince Na settled down enough to go to bed. She lit a candle, picked up a quill, and unfurled a scroll.

"Dear Researcher Bryseis,

So good to hear from you. We are all faring about as well as can be expected when a monstrosity blinks at you from above. That is to say, we've mainly been going about our business.
Wakanga has had a bit of a rough time lately; as a man equally imbued with curiosity and stubbornness, he attempted to do some adventuring with only his cousin to help him. He was turned into a statue for his trouble, and his cousin is still missing. We returned him to his human form, and as his doctor I've forbidden him from pursuing such reckless pursuits in the future. However, the incident has illuminated certain facts about the situation, and we're further pursuing these leads. I hesitate to document them all in written form, but should you return to Port Nyanzaru I shall enlighten you to our findings.
As for the others, Mwaxanare is as haughty as ever, and Na is making leaps and bounds in his medical training. Grandfather Zitembe and Mami Wata are both safe and attending to their respective communities as always. Rhogar has managed not to be eaten by a tyrannosaurus yet, so that is to be commended.
We did manage to locate the ruins of Omu, but they're currently overrun with Yuan-Ti. Needless to say, our stay was brief. However, before our hasty departure, we discovered the true nature of the eye, and of our local beggar Popobawa. The eye is his, and his true identity is Eshowdow, protector of Omu and Shadow of Ubtao. He has challenged us to the Trials of Earth, Wind, and Fire, with the lives of the Mezro royals hanging in the balance. I'm pleased to say we were triumphant in the Trial of Earth, although for my own dignity's sake I prefer not to elaborate on how the victory was secured.
I'm heartened to hear that you've found a solution to the Dragon Ward issue. I myself traveled to Waterdeep briefly during the troubles at the behest of my least-exasperating cousin, who serves as a Purple Dragon Knight of Cormyr and was on-site to assist during the battle. It had been quite some time since I'd seen such destruction.
Please send my regards to each of our Waterdhavian colleagues, and I hope to meet you again soon.
Sincerely,
Bourdekin"
