What the fuck did he just say?

by Talutah

Needing a change of scene from the usual Zyniii taverns, I decided to head over to the bar in Prince Liuni's garrison. The bar had a relaxing atmosphere and they had no issues with Gallant being there which contributed to my high praise of the place. Looking around i noticed some of my fellow misfits were also at the Garrison bar. Zyanya looked like she was immensly enjoying Saadiah's company and Gurval appeared to be having an enjoyable chat with the Mokakuna Gi. Zeno and Z2 were busy praising eachother in the corner of the room, gosh imagine if they ever got intimate with eachother, now that would be taking 'getting to know yourself' to a whole other level.

Gi walked over to me and pulled out a chart listing alcoholic beverages with a bunch of names listed next to them, there was a big X next to Gurval's name. He found it strange that Gurval was drinking wine and wanted my opinion on the matter. I could not recall Gurval having a bad reaction the last time he drank wine, so i figured it should be fine. Lucid had joined us during this discussion but left once Gi started mentioning the various names Gurval had for Lucid such as Corpse walker etc, i can imagine hearing those names all the time would be annoying.

I ordered a much needed drink and then ambled over to Gurval to ask how the wine was, i was curious to see if he would divulge his reasons for partaking in an an alocholic beverage instead of his usual milk. He did not say much though, GI came over and the conversation steered away from Gurval's drinking habits, by this stage Arthom, Syrus and Ko Rava had turned up at the bar.

Yifeng then entered the bar with Lucid and Gurval called over to Yifeng asking her to bring over her friend. I was not sure i heard correctly at first, since when did Gurval refer to Lucid as a friend. Arthom found it strange that Gurval was being nice to Lucid and i also thought the same. What was more bizzare is that Gurval was acting like he did not know who Lucid was, true he had not called Lucid by his name for a while but he knew him at least. Just when i thougnt it could not get more confusing Gurval then called Lucid a Savali, i had never heard him use that term before. I was starting to get concerned that there was something wrong with Gurval and looking at my fellow misfits i could tell they also shared my concerns.

Ko Rava began to ask Gurval various questions to try and get to the bottom of his changed demeanour, but he kept giving her cryptic answers and was more concise than usual in his speech. She thought maybe he was possesed, considering how weird he was acting i thought that was a fair assumption. She asked Gurval if he was someone else but he simply answered no and said he was still Gurval. I could tell she was still skeptical but this questioning was leading nowhere so she stated to him that she would continue to keep an eye on him.

Gurval was on a roll tonight, a few minutes later he slammed his hand on the table, looked at us and then asked why were helping Prince Liuni with the cults. We all gave our reasons and i expressed that we had to stop the cults because they threatened the peace in Mayhos. During this discussion Gurval had the nerve to say that i did not know suffering, he had lost friends and family while i had only suffered a failed marriage. Arthom came to my defence which was nice but what Gurval had said really got under my skin.

It felt like he was saying that only those who had truly suffered had a justification for fighting. Just because i had a fairly easy upbringing should not mean that i am denied the right to fight for what i belleive in and care about. I still cared about the little person, the innocent person trying to live a happy life and would fight to protect them. I may not have endured immense suffering but i would gladly do whatever was needed to stop endless pain and death for others, to stop the evil spreading to my homeland. These cults had wished to cause harm and i had no qualms helping prince Liuni if it meant stopping them. I may have left home initally seeking adventure but now i am prepared to do what is needed to stop the spread of evil across the lands of Mayhos, even if those lands are not my homeland.

I expressed this to Gurval and after we had given our reasons for helping prince Liuni he seemed satisfied with our answers. Minutes passed and Gurval looked pensive. He told us that he needed us to live, Arthom asked him why he needed us and then he whispered something in Arthoms ear. Before any of us had a chance to inquire further Gurval used his magic and teleported away. We immediately asked Arthom what Gurval had whispered to him. Arthom responded that Gurval had whispered he was keeping us here to kill him.

I chill ran down my spine and we all sat there in silence contemplating what Gurval had just reveled to Arthom.
