Renaldine enters her chamber and closes the door behind her. A moment of peace. She removes her armor and sits on the edge of her bed. Placing her face into her hands, the weight of leadership weighs on her shoulders. Picking up her pieces of plate mail, she begins to polish them. She now understands why the military leaders make such a fuss over being clean. She wants to be a proper representation of this area and the people she may be leading to their death.
This is what weighs on her. There are trained personnel who live their lives at risk, but the townsfolk are also taking up arms, and she fears that the trained forces of Peleton may be too much.
Leaning back with her sholder piece, she reminisces on the days events filled with diplomacy
First, the meeting with the secret organization called The Watch. The discussions went well. Better then she hoped for. The monetary commitment was far more then she dreamed.
Second,. the meeting with the Iron. This went just as well and the results were the same. Between the two organizations, she has the funding to repair the castle and set up a leadership in her absence.
Between the two organizations, she also obtained trained troops, including a Calvary.
The real test of diplomacy would be with the White Tusk Tribe. Dorokar would not be easy to convince. Orcs are not known for community contributions. During negotiations, Dorokar established the condition that the mage Pina, stay with their tribe for 6 months. Renaldine would not commit to the request. She assured Dorokar she would talk with Pina. If such a request was agreed too, her safety must be assured. Dorokar expessed there are no guarantees of life, however, Dorokar gave assurance that the tribe would do all it could to protect her.
Another round of Diplomacy seems to be required. Renaldine met up with Pina. Pina seemed hesitant, but there was also a twinkle in her eye. Renaldine concluded that the thought of 6 months time with a tribe of orcs would not only be exciting, but pay off in other areas of research. Pina expressed she would be willing, with 1 condition, that she could return to town periodically.
Renaldine made no commitmments to Pina, and assured her that she would do her best with Dorokar. Upon return to the White Tusk Tribe, Dorokar was almost exuberant at the thought!
Im better at this Diplomacy stuff then I thought! Renaldine instructed Dorokar to flank Peletons armies when she sounded the horn Dorokar gifted her.
Upon return to the Castle, a surprise awaited Renaldine. A stone giant had heard of the parties deeds and decided to visit the castle. His name was Agate. And he supported my idea of stabilization of all communities in the area. Renaldine immediately asked if he could help with the heavy lifting and castle repair. Agate not only agreed, but also asked if he could carve an artist relief in the castle walls of Renaldines impact on the community. Renaldine bowed deeply, "You honor me sir".
Finishing the polishing of her armor, Renaldine thought back on her party companions. She had grown quite fond of Rory, although she didn't understand why. His childlike demeanor must be wearing her down. Kemuirals pride and commitment to helping astonished her. His new sword and armor should make him happy.
Freya, always the enigma, always the loner. Renaldine hoped the monetary rewards were keeping her satisfied. Her party, the factions, the town, so many are counting on me. Is the the test Kelemvor, she asked?
Renaldine leaned back into her bed. I wish I could sleep, she thought.
