Session one - Humble Beginnings

by Daeberos Truscan

Today was the beginning of my journey to the cobalt soul library in Daestok. I met with Knight-Captain Ulrich at the gates of Zadash and found some friends among my collegues. Tallis and Dormund was there. I also did not expect to see Cassius there. He changed his name for some reason.. best not to pry.
There was also a Dragonborn among them; big lad that one, could easily throw me two stories high. he doesnt say much, but seems to handle himself well.
Ulrich did not explain much, only that there was danger ahead. We traveled the Bromkiln Byway and met a farmer with a broken wagon. The dragonborn, Al'Akir (thats gonna be hard to pronounce.. i must find a suitable nickname.. perhaps Al?) and i lifted up the wagon as the farmer put the wheel back in place. he gave us some produce for helping him, i hope he made it to Zadash. bountiful harvest to him.

We made camp, uneventful rest.
In the morning we went back upon the road and made quite some headway. during the night however, as we were resting; Goblin marks were found by Tallis, keen eyes that one. We had not seen any other traces of them, so quickly got back on the road in the morning.
Two fallen logs in the middle of the road; an ambush. Several goblins, some ogre or orcs and two magically inclined humanoids. We all fought bravely and managed to dispatch the foes. Tallis and i tried to capture the two spell casters. they were strange creatures. Glowing eyes, silver beads. a sulken face with a deep blue complexion. when we had him cornered.. he killed himself. i say he, but quite frankly, i dont know if those things have genders. they are unlike any other being i had laid eyes upon. Ulrich got roughed up pretty badly, but we managed to win. i even insulted a goblin to death. good times.

We made camp one last time nearby Daestok. two merchants came in the night, wanting to share our fire. sadly, all we had left were embers; the others were asleep. i invited them to camp close by, safety in numbers and all that. They left in the morning before we really had a chance to properly meet.
We then made our way to Daestok and received entry through the gates. some people were staring at Al, i hope he was not offended. this will be the first time they see one of the fallen Dragonborn people up close.

Apparently, Drez Vandrel did not want a library.. so he had the place turned into a bar. its still under construction, but im afraid i'll be drawn to the vices. we met with the man, and he was not what i had heard. he was fair, and expecting. previous titles didnt mean anything to this man. he only cared for the future. its a brave thing in this world of ours.

He and Ulrich explained our job. track weird occurrences and find out what makes them tick. three such items were known at this junction in time. Pride's Call has had its river dried up. the draught has caused a scarcity of water, which in turn threatens to uproot the whole economy in the place. apparently the empire is not doing much; treating symptoms, but not the root cause. the second item on the list was a city in the menagerie coast. Gwarden, of its 20000 inhabitants, none have died in the last few months. this is certainly curious, but hardly as pressing as the other two occurrences. then there were the earthquakes in Nicodranas. the clovis concord is apparently downplaying the danger, but the actions of the tidal priests are clear. there is danger there.

For the moment, we decided to head to Nicodranas first. if the earthquakes spread, many more can get hurt. we were then planning to head to Pride's call and finally Gwarden.

We then headed for some dinner and went to bed. in the morning, a friend of Drez would help us get near our objective.
