Zora

by Magnus

Some know me as Zora the White, for my magic has aided them in their times of need. To them, I am a wandering healer that has helped to save many lives.

Few know me as Zora the Black, for my magic has aided in spelling their defeat. To them, I am a pursuer of justice and aide to those who fight for that cause.

My friends know me simply as Zora, for they say I am loyal and trustworthy. To them, I am a reliable traveler, using my magic to aid however I can.

I know myself as no one, for I have no history in this world. To myself, I am a slate wiped clean with neither family nor home.

-----------------------------

I know nothing of myself. The others label me with these titles, but I am none of them. At least not truly. I awoke three years ago with no memory and no possessions to my name. I found myself in a well lit room filled with medical supplies. I did not know where I was, but strangely I had felt relieved. I tried to move, but it felt as if my entire body had been crushed. So I continued to just lie there, and see what would come of it. As time went by, I couldn't help but notice a thought burning at the back of my mind.

I must revive [her].

Who is she that I must revive? No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't remember her name. However, I knew for some reason that the only way to do that is with a true feather of Phoenix. Soon enough, someone entered into the medical room. He carried a bowl of something in his hand, and it smelled incredible.

"Oh, so you're awake," he said. "Here, eat this. It will help you feel better."

The man helped me to a sitting position and gave me the bowl. I thought it had smelled great, but the taste was as if the gods themselves had prepared it. I'm not sure what came over me, but as I ate I began to cry. I felt a relief even greater than before and a strange sense of hope was swelling inside of me. Somehow I managed to stop eating long enough to thank the man for his help.

After finishing my meal, I learned that the man's name was Kaine Highwind. I was aboard an airship, called the Prometheus, which was owned and crewed by this man and a few others. Their names were Wedge, Biggs, Jessie, and Sable. It was a small crew, but they managed to make it through each day. They said that they found me laying out in the middle of the plains and that I was injured very badly. The injuries implied that I had taken a fall from somewhere, but their only guess was possibly from another airship. Still, they said I was lucky that I wasn't injured any more than I was, or I probably would have died.

They then asked me to introduce myself... How do I introduce someone that I don't know? I told them that I knew only as much as they had told me, and besides that I knew nothing. Not even my own name. I knew nothing of my family or home. Nothing about friends. But most importantly, nothing about [her]. The thought of [her] burned in my head until I was overwhelmed by it. It was a feeling of loss. Of sadness. And of regrets.

The crew decided to give me the name Zora, for I had been reborn anew in the sky. I liked it, not because it was anything significant in meaning, but because it was the first piece of my new life. I supposed that since I was given the chance to start new in life, I might as well make it a life I won't regret. I will revive [her].
