Confliction.

by Inquisitor Wolfram

Today was...eventful. We finally completed the job. Bailan is facing Empyreus' judgement as we speak. But his death was not the only one, unfortunately many souls were lost on our way to reunite mother and daughter. That I regret, but I fear much wouldn't change even if I could go back and do it differently. Some of the companions I travel with are quick to slaughter. This troubles me. I do think they are good people, just...misguided. Though I must be patient, I do believe that these folk will be able to walk the paths of the seraphs, they just need to learn that life is sacred and death is a waste.

And suffering is not justice.

Belinde was keen to see Bailan suffer, and he did. But at least Luwyne and I were able to convince her to stop. As abhorrent as Bailan was, his suffering in this life was unnecessary, for if suffering is his penance he will face it in the afterlife.

Now Raulk,

His mannerisms are still disturbing. He seems to be more beast than man. There is hope however, today during his rage I was able to calm him. This is the first time he has even backed down in this state. Between this and his restrain on killing, he just may be redeemed yet. I believe in the seraphs' guidance and they have guided me to him. It is clearly my purpose to show him the way and help him along it, much like what Paeris is for me.

Finally I want to speak of my confliction. My entire life I've been told that magic is evil and not to be trusted. I've been told my abilities are a curse. Even though once they saw it can be used in their favour, it became okay. I do not use my magic to make evil and I think that's where the line is. But doesn't that mean that magic isn't inherently evil? So far on my travels most of the evil stems from humanity. There have been plantly of bad people who hold no trace of the arcane. The party uses their spells to aid their heroic deeds. The only corruption from magic has been from Bailan and he was pushed into it by his environment.

Do I still hunt magic wherever I go? Or is my purpose to instead guide the arcane to use their magic in service of the seraphs? I do not know. All I know is that there is much wickedness in this world and we are at least doing our part to stop it. Perhaps that is enough.
