Kraius' First Year

It was a rough opening for young Kraius. When he arrived at Ioth Academy he deliberately discarded everything from his prior life. A student at the greatest institute of magical learning in the four kingdoms is all he wanted to be--not anybody else.
 
He was SO EXCITED to see Ioth at the opening ceremony. All his life he'd heard stories of the great archmage, his companions, the glory of a world long since lost and the awesome power of magic. He got a little bit upset when some of the other children were being disrespectful, and it was the worst possible time for his asthma to act up. That's how he got his unfortunate nickname, "Squeaky," and developed a dislike for that tall smug Alfar boy. Kraius thought that a Dawn Elf ought to be more reverent!
 
Things got even more confusing because he was supposed to be assigned to the Grove, but something went wrong with his paperwork? There were too many students on the list? All he knows is he was settling in and meeting people and then suddenly he was sitting on a staircase waiting for the caretakers to figure out his fate, only to get completely redirected to the Great Hall.
 
Honestly? That worked out for him. The idea of living under the open sky in a beautiful forest was intriguing, but the Great Hall had much more pomp, much more grandeur, a place fitting for the telling of somber and meaningful stories. Kraius threw himself into his work even at the young age of 10. He knew lots of things, and while that made him the butt of jokes among some students, there were others eager to hear his stories and interesting facts. He developed a small circle of friends who believed him when he acted important. Overall, things were looking up for him--until halfway through the year.
 
Athalor and company got transferred to the Great Hall. It'd been six months, and Kraius hoped that perhaps they'd learned some decorum by now.
 
They, unfortunately, had not.
