Born in 845 to a Mundane couple, the babe to be known as Sebastian was spirited away by the Fae to their forest, where he was brought up. Over the years he fished and wandered the forest, learned to sing and wrestle with the other youngsters. And was taught not to lie. Until shortly before his 9th birthday, he was taken from the Forest by a Gifted Mercere: his Grandfather, Maximilien Augustus de Mercere, who had made a deal with the Fae decades before, giving them the child for a decade, minus a year, a month and a day.

What ensued was a year long crash course in how the human world worked, before the boy was apprenticed to the mundane arm of House Mercere, under a certain Moist von Lipwig.
Fifteen years later, Sebastian Holle ex Mercere was a free man, with a good job. Under his parens he had been taught how to train dogs, and so after acquiring a suitable companion, ventured out to work at the covenants near his former home, the Fae forest.

One of his former playmates, the fairy girl Althaea, had blossomed into a beautiful young lady, and the two began courting. The next twenty five years saw Sebastian visiting the forest to see his love whenever he could. Unfortunately she disapproves of his work and loyalty to the order taking precedence over her.

Sebastian has a gift for tongues, which has let him move across the Marran and Rilean tribunals with ease. Aside from his duties as a Redcap, he supplements his income by lending money on his travels to those desperate for cash. Most repay the debt, but few are happy about it. This means that the red fez’d man is tolerated on his travels, but rarely welcomed. A lot of this extra money gets spent on his two loves: Althaea; and his dogs. Sebastian has patronised several kennels on his journeys, often near hunters and nobility, who also favour the Great Dane’s that he prefers. His ideal companion is big and loyal, as the dogs are mostly put to work as guard dogs on his journeys, with the occasional forage into poaching hunting. Almost never seen without a pair of the giant dogs, he prides himself on managing to train them to tolerate those with the gift about as well as he does himself.

The last few years have put a lot of strain on his and Althaea’s relationship, as the Schism war rages on. Although the Order seems to be winning as of 895, this may only make the final Diedne more desperate than ever. A long argument with his lover culminates in her demanding that they need some time apart. And Sebastian leaves the fairy forest in the Marran tribunal…

And is confused when he exits. The scenery is wrong, the season is wrong… something strange has happened. Following the road to the next village, he discovers he is now in Rilea, in the oft contested Belfimbrey plateau. Getting his bearings, he makes his way to the nearest Mercer house that he is aware of, and gets some bad news. Some time has passed. It is now the Autumn of 1058, 163 years later, and some 500 miles as the crow flies.

Sebastian has spent some time now travelling. He has relearned the modernised Marran and Rilean tongue, checked up on some of his former ventures, and tried to get to grips with the changes in the world. While he is unsure as to what happened, or even if it is deliberate, he has decided to remain in the plateau for the time being, and have his own break from the relationship. After a year or two here, he will venture back up to the Marran side and get some answers. He is given directions to a fairly new covenant in the plateau, a letter of introduction and some post for the Magi, and sets off on his new life.

Sebastian is very much pro Fae, and eschews iron in his belongings, carrying a bronze dagger instead. He plays the panpipes, although not nearly as well as any Faerie he’s ever met.
