Oddities in Redwood

Our first day in the Redwood Watch was a fairly eventful one. We met with Gwenhumara, one of three Council Members in charge of the Redwood Watch. She explained some of what had been going on, and the timeline of events was very, interesting, to say the least. I'm sure Finn wrote the exact dates down, but apparently some guards went missing, then a week later some more went missing, then a week after that one of the three councilmembers went missing. And now it's been a month since that happened and they're just now having someone get involved? Likely story.
 
So not only has it been at least six weeks since people started disappearing, the most recent guy is supposed to be a skilled woodsman and/or hunter. Which is her reason for not being concerned enough to get help sooner, because clearly someone going missing for that long amidst a poisoned and decaying forest isn't concerning if they they know what they're doing. Like I get it, I've gone on long hunts where I was tracking something for days or even weeks out in the middle of nowhere, but this guy was someone important, who has responsibilities in town, and was searching an area only a 30 minute walk from the town? The only way any of that makes sense is if they are either incompetent, or corrupt and hiding something, more on that later.
 
So then Finn started asking questions about the original conflict with Death at Sunset 100 years ago, and she definitely didn't want to answer, so again either doesn't realize it could be important, or has something to hide. Long story short she tells us they defeated it, it's definitely dead, and her boyfriend died killing it. But for some reason they just left the body of him and the dragon where they died, no burning the corpses, no funeral, nothing. Then she tells us some places in town to check out and we leave.
 
Kinzee wants to go to the bar for rumors, then Haziel has a stroke of genius and says that since she can destroy water, we could grab some of the corrupted water from the river and she could destroy the water leaving only the corruption behind. Finn immediately leaps at the chance for science, and I volunteer to join them. So we split ways, Buck and Kinzee go to the bar, we go to the Grove.
 
At the grove we spend a long time preparing for the science, then as soon as we go to actually do it we get attacked by a bunch of centipedes. I easily dispatch them, but not before they gravely wound Haziel. Finn and I help stabilize and heal her, then everyone else shows up. We doddle around a bit, finally complete the science, and then Elidor fucking shows up "disguised" as a golden butterfly. That man is very old and smart, but I think he needs to learn what the word subtle means.
 
So then we head back to town, a squirrel somehow picks up on the fact I've got a thing for Buck, and we head to the tavern so Kinzee can go on a date, girl moves fast apparently. That happens without incident, then we all head to bed. Finally got a chance to talk with Belikr, that man really puts the weight of the world on his shoulders, and keeps finding ways to stack even more on top of it.
