Deepnight Coalition Officer's Log #1: Meeting the Recruits

by Captain (CCN) Amalia

It has been some time since I was seconded to the Deepnight Coalition on behalf of the Navy. Thus far, things have gone well, and I have for the first time been assigned to doing some fieldwork for the Coalition. I have been sent with a relatively nervous functionary to track down the crew of the SS Good Times, a reserve vessel from the Surveyor's Guild, and enlist them into the Project. There are some risks involved with contacting persons outside the coalition, though Doctor Bong was insistent on this particular group. Alongside the appointed Guild representative, we met this new group in the local 'truckstop' cafe at the Miracle starport.

After the initial meeting I was, unimpressed. This group appears to have a frighteningly high turnover rate. Perhaps this is the nature of their profession, but I am distinctly worried that a group that regularly loses members this quickly might have flaws in their operation. However, I held my tongue, as I do ultimately trust Doctor Bong's judgement on the matter. We handed out the terms, and spent some time procuring materials for the journey. I did some research before meeting mister Avignon, and he appeared, by all accounts to be an apolitical figure when joining the guild, but has become something of an interstellar anarchist. This is, to put it plainly an intriguing development, and once my own personal involvement with the Deepnight Coalition has been concluded I will have to see if Avignon is still operating, and then see if the Confederacy may be willing to provide materiel support in order to bolster a potentially antagonistic actor to the Republic of Istengrav.

After a day or two to recuperate, carry out crew transfers and some light maintenance, we left Midgard to commence our mission. I must admit to some eagerness to start exercising my piloting skills once again as it has been a while since the Confederated Fleet relegated me to lia
